SUMMARY:EARTH & SKY by Roberta Tucci - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Chimaera Gallery presents EARTH&SKY\, a solo exhibition by Roberta Tucci\, inviting viewers into a vibrant world where the natural and celestial collide in a consonance of color and form. Known for her abstract interpretations of the world around her\, Tucci’s acrylic paintings draw inspiration from her deep\, meditative connection to the outdoors. This collection captures the dualities of nature — the solidity of the earth and the expansiveness of the sky — through a body of work that spans large and small canvases\, along with intricately painted constructions on shaped wood panels. \nIn EARTH&SKY\, earthly subjects such as marigold flowers and the flowing rhythms of river water come to life in bold\, energetic compositions. These grounded scenes are juxtaposed with Tucci’s skyward explorations\, where whimsical flight patterns of birds and the gradual dance of an eclipse infuse the works with a sense of movement and mysticism. Each painting offers an interplay between groundedness and the ethereal\, inviting viewers to experience a balance between the tangible and the transcendent. \nGallery Hours: Sat. 12-4 p.m.\, or by appointment \n3502 Scotts Lane #2113 \nPhiladelphia\, PA 19129 \nchimaeragallery.com \nhello@chimaeragallery.com

SUMMARY:Apple Picking with Eve
DESCRIPTION:The Philadelphia Ethical Society will host the first public screening of Apple Picking with Eve\, the latest poem video in the WeWomen series. This evocative multimedia piece delves into the interplay between history\, identity\, and memory\, challenging traditional narratives and offering new perspectives on historical memory through the voices of historic female characters and inanimate objects.\nApple Picking with Eve began as a poem over ten years ago\, and has since transformed into a complex and layered work after Moss-Vreeland created 84 pages of mixed-media artwork and translated to film. Drawing from themes of perception\, memory\, and the reframing of historical narratives\, the video explores how personal and collective identities are shaped\, recorded\, and reimagined. The piece features the voices of 6 local women of varying disciplines.\nDate: Sunday\, January 12\, 2025 \nTime: 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM\nLocation: Philadelphia Ethical Society\, 1906 Rittenhouse Square \nThe event will feature:\nA screening of Apple Picking with Eve\nA discussion about the creative process and themes of the project \nThis event is free and open to the public. RSVP is required. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience an innovative work that bridges poetry\, history\, and visual art.

SUMMARY:The Clay Studio presents Clay & Conversation: Liisa Nelson
DESCRIPTION:The Clay Studio presents Clay & Conversations\, an exciting series of informal conversations and get – with ceramic artists\, curators\, scholars\, and friends together. On February 21\, join Philadelphia-based ceramic artist Liisa Nelson to learn about her new exhibition Dreams. The exhibition comprises a series of sculptures\, furniture\, and wall tile pieces exploring human longing through the myths and spirits of the past\, blending them with symbols of the digital age and late capitalism. The collection questions how our hopes and dreams are shaped in an increasingly consumer-driven world and how power structures capitalize on our deepest desires.\nBorn and raised in Montana\, the wildness of nature and the quietude of mountains is in Liisa Nelson’s blood. In 2020\, Nelson founded Theorii Contemporary Art Space\, an experimental gallery that is currently transitioning from brick-and-mortar to a digital and pop-up-based project. Participants can register for the discussion on Zoom.
