SUMMARY:SUBVERSION cabaret - AfroFuturism + AfroSurrealism
DESCRIPTION:A whisper from the future… a pulse from the past. We call it SUBVERSION.\nOn Saturday\, October 5th\, the final chapter of our annual Black Burlesque Trilogy begins. SUBVERSION is not only a cabaret\, it’s a portal. A ritual of Afro-Surrealism and Afro-Futurism\, where flesh\, spirit\, and the unknown unite in a lavish world of mystery and desire. \nJoin us in an avant garde\, experimental cabaret —interactive\, immersive\, and unapologetically otherworldly. Will you witness the future? Or will you become it? \nSUBVERSION is an avant-garde theatrical show experience that invites guests into a sanctuary of black excellence and liberation for one-night-only focused on all things Afro-Futurism and Afro-Surrealism. \nSUBVERSION by Siren Pack is the final part of the annual Black Burlesque Trilogy. It features an all-Black cast (though all identities are welcome to attend) and centers on the exploration of the Black future\, following the themes of ancestral homage (PRIMAL\, in celebration of Black History Month) and present liberation (FREEDOM in celebration of Juneteenth) from the first two parts of the trilogy. The show is an avant-garde blend of sensuality\, ritual\, and performance art\, offering a powerful celebration of Blackness featuring an all star ensemble: Queerly Femmetastic\, Ashantidoll\, Zami’Fae\, MovaKween\, La Deva Arazel\, Switchress Shay Au Lait\, DJ Gozer\, Emerald Sazerac and Marvin the Professor. \nWhile it is the 3rd part of the annual trilogy\, if this is your first time attending\, you will enjoy it. Each show has its own independent story with many of the same performers.

SUMMARY:Building Your Own Permeable Backyard with Nancy Agati & DesignPhiladelphia
DESCRIPTION:As a part of DesignPhiladelphia’s 20th Annual Festival\, join us within Nancy Agati’s installation “Aqua Terrace” to learn more about how to transform concrete spaces into permeable ecosystems that help mitigate flooding issues and rebuild water systems in Philadelphia. \nPhiladelphia Artist Nancy Agati will present examples of her artwork: sculpture\, installations\, and public participatory projects that address the topic of water. Her work emphasizes the contemplative beauty of clean-flowing waterways in urban areas\, with several projects that address flooding and stormwater runoff in the built environment. Agati’s permeable surface art projects offer mitigation strategies for climate-related water management issues and seek to foster reverence and stewardship for nature and clean water advocacy. \nThis workshop will highlight a step-by-step process for small-scale DIY permeable surface yard installations. Participants will be introduced to a variety of possible materials and building methods. Time will be allotted for sketching ideas\, answering questions\, discussing costs\, and learning about the benefits of porous materials. Participants are encouraged to bring cell phone photos of the yard they wish to transform.
