This intimate physical theatre adaptation of the gothic masterpiece will run September 16-19. \nObsession for the lost LIGEIA spirals into madness in Poe’s haunting tale of unutterable grief and unimaginable terror. As chilling evidence of a supernatural presence mounts\, the audience wonders: are the narrator’s visions caused by opium\, or has his wife’s corpse been possessed? \nRather than dramatizing the events of the plot\, LIGEIA emphasizes the physical action of storytelling itself. Remaining faithful to Poe’s original text\, solo-performer William Trevino weaves poetic language with his decades of martial arts practice to create a visceral atmosphere of suspense. A 6th degree black belt in Soo Bahk Do and a veteran Poe performer\, Trevino transforms martial arts movement to embody the psychological struggles of Poe’s narrator. \n“I think of Poe’s language as a complex musical score\,” says Trevino. “My martial arts choreography doesn’t illustrate the story\, it dances to it.” \nWilliam Trevino’s work devising theatre from martial arts has been presented in NYC (including at Dixon Place and HERE Arts Center) with support from the Jerome Foundation and the Queens Arts Fund. Skills taught include:  \n\nBody awareness skills: breathing\, blowing\, posture and how to properly hold an instrument. \n\n\nExecutive & technical: embouchure formation\, finger control & dexterity\, and basic tone production. \n\n\nMusicianship skills: singing\, playing\, moving\, improvising\, creating music of all kinds\, and reading music notation alone and with others. \n\nThe skills learned will prepare them for participation in a traditional Band program and allow them to transition to playing a full-sized band instrument with relative ease.  \nNo prior experience with instrumental music is required. Students are taught by a Master Teacher and supported by Temple University undergraduate music education and performance instrumental interns.

We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. DESCRIPTION:Newlin Grist Mill and Wild Birds Unlimited (Glen Mills) have teamed up to explore the wonderful world of bird life! Join us for monthly naturalist-led walks through the 160-acre park at Newlin Grist Mill. We will meet year-round residents\, visit exciting migrants\, and learn the basics of bird identification and biology. \n2026 Bird Walks: \n\nJanuary 31 (9am)\nFebruary 28 (9am)\nMarch 28 (9am)\nApril 25 (8am)\nMay 30 (8am)\nJune 27 (8am)\nJuly 25 (8am)\nAugust 29 (8am)\nSeptember 26 (8am)\nOctober 31 (8am)\nNovember 28 (9am)\nDecember 19 – Christmas Bird Count (9am)\n\nFamilies and beginners are welcome for these free bird walks! A limited number of binoculars are available for use\, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them. Participants should meet by the Log Cabin.
