SUMMARY:Free art show- A Likeness Now Seen
DESCRIPTION:May 1st – June 30th \nArtist reception- May 22nd 6-9pm \nBlack Moth Gallery presents a group exhibition exploring form as subject by contemporary artists. The collection of artworks addresses issues of self-identity\, body type acceptance\, intimacy and aging. Working in various mediums from timeless practices to exploring new materials and techniques\, artists demonstrate their appreciation of the human figure. Some exercise mastery of classic renderings of the subject while others seek expressive interpretations and inspirations of the all so familiar forms\, albeit infinitely unique. \n  \nThese modern examples of a classic motif naturally register with us because what we recognize is most familiar\, a variation of the material self. These are moments in the finite life of another being\, stilled and eternalized\, sometimes venerated. A story is told\, energy is felt\, and technical skills are admired. The intimacy of engaging a portrait or figure painting will always be reflective\, enticing\, and esteemed\, from the experience the of artist to that of the viewer. \n  \nA portion of the proceeds from this show will support Domestic Violence Center of Chester County. \n  \nInvited artists: \n\nJessica Bednarcik\nMashiul Chowdhury\nKatherine Fraser\nThomas Tustin\nTony Ward\nBarbara Zanelli

SUMMARY:Remembered Objects in Paper Mache (Spring 2)
DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nHave you ever lost something special or maybe something special has lost its use? Your best winter hat? Your favorite VHS tape? We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. In 2025 she was the subject of a solo exhibit at the Philadelphia International Airport\, participated in 11 group exhibitions in Philadelphia and New York and was a nominee for the Pew Fellowship. \nInstagram – @sophie6598\nWebsite – SophieCWhite.com

SUMMARY:Ancient Wines: The Wine Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Canaan\, one of the world’s oldest wine regions\, spans present-day Lebanon and Israel\, where winemaking dates back over 5\,000 years. The region’s ancient vineyards supplied wine to Egypt and Mesopotamia\, and biblical texts reference its deep winemaking heritage. This class explores that legacy through wines from Lebanon and Israel\, highlighting how ancient techniques and terroir continue to shape modern production.

SUMMARY:Judgement of Paris: California versus France at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Our Judgement of Paris wine class pits two favorite wine countries in an epic battle of uncorked fury. Our series of VERSUS classes are hugely popular\, and this is one of the shining jewels. France was the undisputed heavyweight champ of the wine world until 1976\, when California unseated the Gallic winemakers at the Judgement of Paris wine tasting. \nIn this class\, we don’t replicate that tasting. Instead\, we bring in a series of fresh new faces in this battle of the bottles. Who will win? That’s up to you.

SUMMARY:Old School Wines For Modern Wine Lovers at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Wine used to be different. Ancient cultures developed their winemaking traditions with little guidance from the outside world. Grape varieties and techniques that could never be modernized (too difficult to grow or too time-consuming to recreate) were treasured for how they tasted\, not for how well they sold in an American supermarket. \nThe wine world describes these bottles in many ways. Sometimes they fall under the heading of natural wines or rare wines. But the best way to explore them is without labels\, with the Wine School as your guide into the world of old-school wine; the kind of wine a modern drinker like you will love discovering.
