SUMMARY:Bourbon! The Whiskey Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Bourbon! is a tour-de-force of one of our favorite drinks. Learn how it’s made\, what makes for a great bourbon\, and some brands to look out for while tasting some fantastic examples. A generation ago\, they called it brown liquor. Now\, we call it the angel’s share.   Do you know what all great liquor has in common? They are aged for many years –sometimes decades– in charred white oak barrels. \nBarrel-aged booze is what this class is about. This is the class for boozehounds looking for the next great experience. From Tennessee Bourbon to Philly-made Bourbon\, you will learn about (and taste) a fantastic selection of barrel-aged booze. This class features some of our favorite bourbons but includes a how-to to make great cocktails. We’ll even show you how to turn white spirits into your signature whiskey.

SUMMARY:Book Release Party for She Was Wild Grass by Katie Bennett

Byob. 7pm at The Perch\, 2321 Emerald Street\, Philadelphia\, PA. \n  \nShe Was Wild Grass (Brink Books\, September 2026) is a hybrid memoir that intertwines Bennett’s own artistic coming-of-age with the haunting story of Joan Vollmer\, the remarkable yet overlooked figure of the Beat Generation whose life was tragically cut short when her husband\, William S. Braiding past and present\, Bennett explores art\, ambition\, gender\, and freedom\, asking what it means to create in a world where women’s stories are so often silenced and forgotten. SUMMARY:Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Before movements had hashtags\, before conversations moved online\, women gathered in living rooms\, community centers\, and rec halls to tell the truth about their lives. Set in a small-town Ohio rec center in the early 1970s\, Liberation follows a group of women who come together for a consciousness-raising meeting—unsure what to expect\, but certain they need one another. As stories unfold about work\, marriage\, motherhood\, race\, desire\, and ambition\, the room becomes a place of courage\, laughter\, conflict\, and possibility. \nMoving between past and present\, the play asks what those gatherings made possible—and what they left unfinished. What does freedom really look like? Who gets to claim it? And what do we inherit from the generations who came before us? Funny\, intimate\, and deeply human\, Liberation reminds us that change begins when people come together. This is where stories are shared. This is where ideas are challenged. This is where we gather.

SUMMARY:Philly Fringe Solo Comedy Show About The Raw Deal of Being a Woman
DESCRIPTION:Why have women been handed such a “Raw Deal\,” and what can we do about it? \nFrom rights being erased\, to still carrying most of the household labor\, women are still buckling under many of the challenges their great-grandmothers marched for. If we laugh about it\, can we transform it? \nIn her 18th original solo show across 30 years of Philadelphia Fringe Festival appearances\, Jennifer Blaine playfully confronts today’s challenging reality for women through a personal lens. Armed with her brilliant impersonation skills\, and her virtuosic ability to juggle humor and poignant perspectives\, Blaine illustrates how she transforms her Raw Deal into a source of strength\, inspiration\, and power. \nIn addition to critiquing the current state of the union for women with her crackling wit\, audiences can expect special “appearances” by a surprising range of real-life characters\, from Emily Post to Nate Bergatze to Marianne Williamson. The show also features some of Blaine’s hysterical cast of beloved original characters including her old Jewish Grandma\, Ruth (who will have you rolling with laughter at her dirty jokes) and her “everyman\,” Danny (who doles out dating advice for incels). \nReflecting on the incredible feat of debuting 18 solo performance works across 30 years of Fringe appearances\, Blaine says: “My art form is the solo show\, and it’s always an evolving craft\, where I employ the crucible of transformation. Some shows have been pure stand-up\, some have 12 characters with no narration\, some have songs\, some are highly interactive\, some are satirical. ‘Raw Deal’ combines many of these elements\, along with some personal confessions of raw deals in my life that I believe will resonate in their absurdity and universality. With this show\, I celebrate the sometimes quiet\, solitary struggle we are going through to overthrow the patriarchy\, each in our own unique way.” \nBlaine\, Philadelphia’s acclaimed solo performer\, comedienne\, and playwright “whose comic genius is like Lily Tomlin and Tracey Ullman” (Philadelphia Daily News)\, has been an outspoken feminist since she could walk. As a girl\, she marched for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)\, later became a Women’s Studies major at the famously progressive Wesleyan University\, and continues to speak out for women’s issues and experiences through her own extraordinary body of solo performance work.

SUMMARY:NYC Bound Solo Show - Shatterproof
DESCRIPTION:Shatterproof-NYC Bound Solo Show \nA fast moving\, spell-binding tragic-comedy. A story about the life of a gifted artist and ingenious comedian who becomes schizophrenic and takes off hitchhiking across America in a futile effort to outrun his mental illness.  \nArrives at 2026 Philadelphia Fringe Festival \, Limited Engagement\, September 18-27\, 2026 \n“As Director\, I am so excited to bring this beautiful piece to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival” – Eric Tucker\, Artistic Director\, Bedlam Theatre Co\, NYC \n“It is a privilege to be let into her world. When this raw honesty is revealed\, its gravity is gripping” – All About Solo\, United Solo Festival \n“Monologues explode like bombs in slow motion…Ms. Block’s performance was brilliant.” – Hi-Drama\, William Cataldi \n\n\n\nMEDIA KIT FOR DOWNLOAD\n\n\n\nPhiladelphia\, PA: What if you thought the funniest and saddest thing you could ever write/act would be the story of your crazy brother taken directly from his own “manifesto” about his own illness?  In Shatterproof\, a solo show written and performed by Dana Block\, that’s exactly what is going down.  Dana Block draws on a world created by her brother in cartoons\, rants and ravings\, and tells the story of their artistic Jewish family in rural Missouri\, bringing each character fully to life on stage\, including the hallucinated ones!  In this boiling pot of mental illness and art\, life is precariously balanced.  This beautifully imagined one-woman show\, directed by award-winning Artistic Director of Bedlam Theatre Co\, Eric Tucker\, is headed to an Off-Broadway debut in November\, 2026.  It is not to be missed. Shatterproof is a true story\, given voice by a sibling who knows first hand\, the heartbreak of trying to save someone who is irretrievably lost.  Shatterproof (formerly produced as “Monkey Man” ) has been called “hilarious and heart breaking.” The limited engagement will play Icebox Project Space Gallery (1400 N American St\, Philadelphia\, PA) from September 18-27\, 2026. Tickets are available now via this link. \nShatterproof\, Dana Block’s autobiographical dark comedy comes to Philadelphia for three performances on September 18\, 26\, and 27 before its anticipated NYC Showcase run. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking\, the play tells the story of a sister’s quest to help her younger brother — a gifted artist and comedian (think Robyn Williams) – whose schizophrenia sends him on the road hitchhiking for decades. Inspired by Block’s own experiences growing up in a close-knit Jewish family\, Shatterproof gives voice to the sibling experience of losing a cherished loved one to an illness whose only promise is\, it cannot be cured.   \nShatterproof shares a wildly funny portrait of an artistic Jewish family from St. Joseph\, Missouri\, before unfolding the extraordinary story of Dana’s relationship with her brother. As a teenager\, Marc’s schizophrenia leads him to hitchhike across America in an attempt to outrun his illness and find himself. Twenty years later\, Dana begins a journey of her own—to try to bring back her brother.  \nThe original material for the show is drawn from Marc’s journals\, drawings\, and writings\, and brings audiences inside both the brilliance and chaos of his mental illness. Through humor\, honesty and compassion\, the play invites audiences to laugh at Marc\, laugh with Marc\, and fall in love with Marc and his utterly mischievous personality. \nThe title Shatterproof reflects the role Dana found herself playing within her family: the person who could hold the center and the only person who had the guts to go out and to try to find him. Dana discovered that loving her brother did not mean having the power to make decisions for him — it meant learning to accept that regardless\, he had possession of his own life and that it was his right to live it as he wanted. \nAt a time when conversations about mental health have never been more urgent\, Shatterproof reminds us that behind every diagnosis is a family painfully navigating impossible choices—and that even in our darkest moments\, laughter can become an act of survival. Catch Shatterproof before its Off-Broadway run and experience this extraordinary true story. \n### \nShatterproof \nWritten by Dana Block \nPerformed by Dana Block \nDirected by Eric Tucker \nIcebox Project Space Gallery (1400 N American St\, Philadelphia\, PA) \nPerformances September 18-27\, 2026 \nTickets at FringeArts.com \nBIOS \nDana Block (Actor) is a classically trained actor and writer who has created and toured 4 original solo shows\, and developed a full-length play under the tutelage of Edward Albee\, acting Master Playwright at Road Less Traveled Theater in Buffalo\, NY\, 2010. SUMMARY:Houndstooth
DESCRIPTION:Vanessa Kamp brings Houndstooth\, a 60-minute interdisciplinary performance\, to this year’s Cannonball festival September 17th\, 20th\, and 26th at Icebox.  \nFamiliar objects are inverted and become the agents of new sonic territories; a wayward speedwalker bares all in a hottt striptease; an aspiring backwoods man’s strutting makes the space feel too small; an enigmatic clubgoer gives a poignant nod to contemporary French cinema; maybe we’re in some guy’s garage where he’s the dj. \nMultiple characters transit and inhabit sensorial spaces and soundscapes where themes of touch are at once literal and expansive\, and act as catalysts to create simple\, lush\, and elegantly surreal passages and scenes. \nUnadorned analog technologies create unexpected and immersive visuals and sound where action unfolds in diverse registers ranging from humor to drag to the surreal. \nTickets are on sale now: https://phillyfringe.org/events/houndstooth/\nGeneral Admission: $25\nPWYC Options\n \nVENUE\nIcebox Project Space\n1400 N American St.
