DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under our feet! \nThe public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist\, Keith Doms\, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nScheduled 2026 Public Archaeology Days: \n\nMarch 21\nApril 18\nMay 16\nJune 20\nJuly 18\nOctober 17 – International Archaeology Day\n\n10am-3pm. Free and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. SUMMARY:Sarajevo Will Be (Everything Else Will Pass)
DESCRIPTION:Lasting from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996 (1\,425 days)\, the siege of Sarajevo was a prolonged military blockade of Sarajevo\, the capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina\, during the ethnically charged Bosnian War. The city was initially besieged by the Yugoslav People’s Army\, before they were replaced by elements of the newly-formed Army of Republika Srpska. The siege was three times longer than the Battle of Stalingrad and more than a year longer than the siege of Leningrad\, making it the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare. \nWhen the siege began\, Sarajevo’s Jewish community numbered roughly a thousand people. Many were Holocaust survivors who recognized what was starting. They stayed\, and turned their community center into a pharmacy that dispensed medicine without checking ethnic ID cards\, a soup kitchen that fed anyone who walked in\, a ham radio that carried messages when the phone lines died\, and a bus convoy operation that evacuated thousands of Sarajevans\, most of who were not Jewish. \nTikkun Olam usually gets translated as repair of the world\, and then left there\, floating somewhere above the actual world. In Sarajevo this happened in the real\, present sense; it looked like counting pills\, keeping lists\, and loading buses\, for four years\, without stopping\, for whoever showed up. \nYeda Theatre traveled to Bosnia and interviewed the people who ran it\, including Jakob Finci\, the former president of the Jewish community who led twelve evacuation convoys. Those recorded voices are what created this piece\, alongside movement\, live violin and accordion\, and shadow puppetry. \nThrough movement\, we remember. Through remembering\, we act.

Burroughs\, shot her in 1951. Braiding past and present\, Bennett explores art\, ambition\, gender\, and freedom\, asking what it means to create in a world where women’s stories are so often silenced and forgotten. For readers of Kate Zambreno\, Maggie Nelson\, and Nathalie Léger. \n  \nKatie Bennett is a writer based in West Philadelphia. She Was Wild Grass is her first book. Their work has been featured in The Brooklyn Rail\, Bomb\, Bright Wall / Dark Room\, and many other wonderful places. They live in West Philadelphia and teach writing at Temple University.
