From artists and abolitionists to educators\, activists\, and innovators\, participants will encounter stories of individuals whose achievements made an impact not only on Germantown but on Philadelphia and the nation.

DESCRIPTION:May 1st – June 30th \nArtist reception- May 22nd 6-9pm \nBlack Moth Gallery presents a group exhibition exploring form as subject by contemporary artists. The collection of artworks addresses issues of self-identity\, body type acceptance\, intimacy and aging. Working in various mediums from timeless practices to exploring new materials and techniques\, artists demonstrate their appreciation of the human figure. Some exercise mastery of classic renderings of the subject while others seek expressive interpretations and inspirations of the all so familiar forms\, albeit infinitely unique. \n  \nThese modern examples of a classic motif naturally register with us because what we recognize is most familiar\, a variation of the material self. These are moments in the finite life of another being\, stilled and eternalized\, sometimes venerated. A story is told\, energy is felt\, and technical skills are admired. DESCRIPTION:Cadence in the Clouds is a new kind of industry night here in the City of Brotherly Love! This unique concert experience is made to celebrate the dreamers and creatives of Philadelphia. Cadence in the Clouds is not just a show; it showcases multiple avenues of the arts while putting multiple tools and resources for Philly artists in one room where they can connect through music\, art\, and new memories to foster collaboration and helping one another further their careers. Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical\, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

DESCRIPTION:Self-care community yoga series at Lawncrest Library\, hosted by Yoga 4 Philly. These free yoga classes are beginner-friendly and open to the public\, no registration required. Saturdays 11 am to noon. Yoga series runs 4/18 to 6/13\, excluding Memorial Day weekend 5/23. \nFree parking on street is available in front of the library.

DESCRIPTION:Master the intersection of relaxed silhouettes and functional design by constructing a custom slouch bag. This hands-on session will dive into the pattern making\, construction\, and finishing of a boutique-quality accessory. \nThis workshop is for intermediate sewists who have basic machine and pattern making confidence and are ready to dive into accessory construction and professional-grade assembly. \nParticipants will learn how to construct a slouch bag\, execute professional assembly\, and master finishing techniques including inset linings\, facings\, and hardware closures. \nParticipants will walk away with a custom\, high-fashion slouch bag and the technical expertise to replicate professional accessory designs for their own handmade wardrobe.
