SUMMARY:National Public Lands Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating National Public Lands Day with a meaningful morning of community\, conservation\, and exploration. We’ll gather at the Penns Woods Winery Tasting Room at 9:30 AM before heading out for a roadside clean-up along Beaver Valley Road and Beaver Dam Road\, helping preserve the beauty of First State National Historical Park. \nAll clean-up supplies — including bags\, gloves\, and safety vests — will be provided. \nFollowing the clean-up\, volunteers are invited to return to the Tasting Room to enjoy a complimentary glass of sangria as a thank-you for your time and service. \nWant to explore a little more? Participants are also welcome to join an optional birding walk before the clean-up (8:30am) or a guided hike afterward (11am). These activities are a great opportunity to experience the natural landscape and learn more about the area from local experts. \nWhat to Wear\nFor your safety and comfort\, please wear closed-toe shoes\, long pants\, and a long-sleeved shirt. Be sure to bring plenty of water. \nAge Restriction\nDue to the roadside nature of this event\, only volunteers 18 years and older may participate in the clean-up. All ages are welcome for the Birding Walk and Ranger Hike.

SUMMARY:Days of Awe
DESCRIPTION:A year after her mother’s death\, a poet in recovery moves home to Philadelphia with a suitcase\, a divorce\, and a lifetime of inherited stories. Set during the ten days from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur\, Days of Awe blends poetry\, storytelling\, and chutzpah into a lyrical reckoning with grief\, desire\, and the inheritances we carry. \nFrom sleepless West Philly stoops to the ghost-lit borderlands of the Pale of Settlement\, this solo show traverses geographies and generations\, tracing a lineage of Jewish women through silence\, survival\, and return. \nTold with equal parts reverence and irreverence\, Days of Awe draws on family history and Jewish ritual to ask how we can carry loss while allowing ourselves to fall back in love with the world. \nDays of Awe is presented as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and Cannonball. \nThe show will take place on the third floor of the Asian Arts Initiative (1219 Vine Street Philadelphia\, PA 19107) \nTickets are available through FringeArts for $25 (pay-what-you-can options avilable): https://phillyfringe.org/events/days-of-awe/

SUMMARY:Offstage Onstage: Everything You Didn’t See The Greeks Do
DESCRIPTION:PHILADELPHIA\, PA: Offstage Onstage: Everything You Didn’t See The Greeks Do will be presented at Cannonball Festival at Asian Arts Initiative Black Box Theater (1219 Vine St) for five performances only.  \nFor the first time ever at Haverford Middle School\, three students interrogate all of the action that traditionally took place offstage in Ancient Greek tragedy: Oedipus stabbing his eyes out after hearing the truth that he murdered his father and married his mother\, Medea killing her children to get revenge on her husband Jason\, and the women of Thebes tearing Pentheus apart after being driven mad by Dionysus. The young theatre historians hop in and out of the different characters and stories of the Greeks to win the praise of their English teacher–Mr. Moscow. As they delve deeper and deeper into exploring these unthinkable acts\, however\, they confront the challenges of their own lives in and outside of school – fashion malfunctions\, bullying\, and\, at its worst\, the fear of gun violence. True to the little ghost party form\, much of the play is performed on a tiny stage. \nIf Pen15 and The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) had a baby about Greek tragedy.

SUMMARY:Practicing Attention—But Why?
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on themes from her bestselling 2019 book How to Do Nothing\, Jenny Odell will examine anxieties about our ability to focus and the way that the issue is often emptied of social\, political\, and spiritual content. Like anything else\, the practice of paying attention can be aimed at increased productivity for productivity’s sake—or worse\, an abstract valuing of mental “performance.” She will argue that much of modern advice regarding the practice of attention is inadequate because it misses the role of purpose\, commitment\, and love. \nA book signing will follow the lecture and Q&A. \nDrawing on themes from her bestselling 2019 book How to Do Nothing\, Jenny Odell will examine anxieties about our ability to focus and the way that the issue is often emptied of social\, political\, and spiritual content. SUMMARY:Murder Most Felt; or\, It's Not Easy Bleeding Green
DESCRIPTION:Show synopsis:\nIt is a dark and stormy night and veteran detective Jack Russell is murdered at his own retirement party. Among those in attendance: his amphibian butler\, a no-nonsense police inspector\, his aquatic archenemy\, an incomprehensible chef\, a reanimated corpse\, and… … 8th President Martin Van Buren? Using nothing but their wits\, ragdoll physics\, and just a bit of audience participation\, it is up to this eclectic band of familiar but legally distinct puppets to figure out which one of them is a killer before they strike again
