DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nHave you ever lost something special or maybe something special has lost its use? Your best winter hat? Your favorite VHS tape? We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nScheduled 2026 Public Archaeology Days: \n\nMarch 21\nApril 18\nMay 16\nJune 20\nJuly 18\nOctober 17 – International Archaeology Day\n\n10am-3pm. Free and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. Enjoy music by 3RowBack and be sure to stop by St. David’s booth for pet blessings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. \nEach year 100% of the Fair’s proceeds are donated to over 20 deserving Delaware Valley and Philadelphia organizations\, as well as our international partners in Cuba\, Guatemala\, and Uganda. We invite you to join the over 3\,500 visitors drawn annually to the St. David’s Church Country Fair and become part of this enjoyable and worthwhile community event. Admission fees all go to support our outreach partners!
