Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. Groups of 6 will enter the installation\, at 15-minute timed entry intervals. An opportunity to ride a Surrey bike is offered but not required.

SUMMARY:Core Sommelier Course (Fall Semester) at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Eight weeks\, 16 sessions\, and the entry point to a full professional wine curriculum. \nThe Philly Wine School has taught this material since 2001. The Core course combines the school’s Foundation and Intermediate programs into one semester — the full sequence in half the calendar time\, and for less than taking them separately. \nEach Sunday runs two sections. The first works through a wine region: France\, Italy\, Spain and Portugal\, North America\, Australia\, South America. The second builds tasting skill\, from sensory mechanics through varietal structure to blind identification. By week seven students are tasting blind. By week eight they are being examined on it. \nThe teaching is old-school and deliberately demanding — lecture\, guided tasting\, discussion\, instructor feedback\, written exams. Most students find in the first two weeks that they knew less than they thought. That is the design. Bring a notebook. \nGraduates earn Level III certification from the National Wine School and can continue into the Advanced program — four semesters\, 32 classes — and then to master-level study. \nKeith Wallace founded the school in 2001. A Napa-trained winemaker and the author of Corked & Forked\, he has taught at Drexel University. Alana Zerbe is director of wine education; she holds a J.D. and an LL.M.\, practiced law in Washington before moving into wine full time\, and developed the National Wine School’s Level One and Level Three programs. Both teach this course. \nTuition covers the course workbook and tasting materials\, both in-class exams\, and Level III certification on completion. No prerequisites. Join us as we travel through some of the oldest farmlands in the United States where we will cross the Esopus Creek on the restored C9 Bridge and go through the Hurley Flats and into the foothill of Hurley Mountain.\nFall Foliage Trains will operate on September 26th\, 27th\, and October 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, and 12th. The collection of artworks addresses issues of self-identity\, body type acceptance\, intimacy and aging. Working in various mediums from timeless practices to exploring new materials and techniques\, artists demonstrate their appreciation of the human figure. Some exercise mastery of classic renderings of the subject while others seek expressive interpretations and inspirations of the all so familiar forms\, albeit infinitely unique. \n  \nThese modern examples of a classic motif naturally register with us because what we recognize is most familiar\, a variation of the material self. These are moments in the finite life of another being\, stilled and eternalized\, sometimes venerated. A story is told\, energy is felt\, and technical skills are admired. We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. SUMMARY:Sarajevo Will Be (Everything Else Will Pass)
DESCRIPTION:Lasting from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996 (1\,425 days)\, the siege of Sarajevo was a prolonged military blockade of Sarajevo\, the capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina\, during the ethnically charged Bosnian War. The city was initially besieged by the Yugoslav People’s Army\, before they were replaced by elements of the newly-formed Army of Republika Srpska. The siege was three times longer than the Battle of Stalingrad and more than a year longer than the siege of Leningrad\, making it the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare. \nWhen the siege began\, Sarajevo’s Jewish community numbered roughly a thousand people. Many were Holocaust survivors who recognized what was starting. They stayed\, and turned their community center into a pharmacy that dispensed medicine without checking ethnic ID cards\, a soup kitchen that fed anyone who walked in\, a ham radio that carried messages when the phone lines died\, and a bus convoy operation that evacuated thousands of Sarajevans\, most of who were not Jewish. \nTikkun Olam usually gets translated as repair of the world\, and then left there\, floating somewhere above the actual world. In Sarajevo this happened in the real\, present sense; it looked like counting pills\, keeping lists\, and loading buses\, for four years\, without stopping\, for whoever showed up. \nYeda Theatre traveled to Bosnia and interviewed the people who ran it\, including Jakob Finci\, the former president of the Jewish community who led twelve evacuation convoys. Those recorded voices are what created this piece\, alongside movement\, live violin and accordion\, and shadow puppetry. \nThrough movement\, we remember. Through remembering\, we act.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Archives Month Philly by viewing glass lantern slides from local special collections! \nPhiladelphia Lantern Slide Salon\nWednesday\, October 7\, 2026\, 6 to 7:30 pm – in the Wagner’s lecture hall \nCelebrate Archives Month Philly at the Wagner Free Institute of Science as we showcase glass lantern slides from the special collections of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University\, the American Philosophical Society\, Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society\, Commercial Museum Lantern Slide Collection\, and the Wagner Free Institute of Science. \nIn the spirit of lantern exhibition culture\, this salon will bring together unique and rarely-seen images presented in the context for which they were originally created. Viewers will marvel at the diverse landscapes of Hawaii\, look at floral slides captured using Lumière autochromes\, the world’s first commercially successful color photographic process\, view snippets from lectures\, textbooks\, and films developed by the United Fruit Company and the Philadelphia Inter-State Dairy Council to better market their products to children\, and so much more! \nPredating the motion picture\, lantern slides were used for entertainment and to illustrate educational programs\, including those held at the Wagner. This event will be held in the Wagner’s Victorian-era lecture hall using our historic lantern projector. Please join us for this rare treat as we revive an old technology in order to see culturally significant lantern slide collections from the libraries and archives of Philadelphia’s most distinguished institutions!
