SUMMARY:Remembered Objects in Paper Mache (Spring 2)
DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nHave you ever lost something special or maybe something special has lost its use? Your best winter hat? Your favorite VHS tape? We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. DESCRIPTION:May 1st – June 30th \nArtist reception- May 22nd 6-9pm \nBlack Moth Gallery presents a group exhibition exploring form as subject by contemporary artists. The collection of artworks addresses issues of self-identity\, body type acceptance\, intimacy and aging. Working in various mediums from timeless practices to exploring new materials and techniques\, artists demonstrate their appreciation of the human figure. Some exercise mastery of classic renderings of the subject while others seek expressive interpretations and inspirations of the all so familiar forms\, albeit infinitely unique. \n  \nThese modern examples of a classic motif naturally register with us because what we recognize is most familiar\, a variation of the material self. These are moments in the finite life of another being\, stilled and eternalized\, sometimes venerated. A story is told\, energy is felt\, and technical skills are admired. Take a spectacular journey along the former Ulster & Delaware Railroad corridor and see the natural beauty of the Catskills from our railroad’s unique perspective. Join us as we travel through some of the oldest farmlands in the United States where we will cross the Esopus Creek on the restored C9 Bridge and go through the Hurley Flats and into the foothill of Hurley Mountain.\nFall Foliage Trains will operate on September 26th\, 27th\, and October 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, and 12th. We invite you to join the over 3\,500 visitors drawn annually to the St. David’s Church Country Fair and become part of this enjoyable and worthwhile community event. Admission fees all go to support our outreach partners! If we laugh about it\, can we transform it? \nIn her 18th original solo show across 30 years of Philadelphia Fringe Festival appearances\, Jennifer Blaine playfully confronts today’s challenging reality for women through a personal lens. Armed with her brilliant impersonation skills\, and her virtuosic ability to juggle humor and poignant perspectives\, Blaine illustrates how she transforms her Raw Deal into a source of strength\, inspiration\, and power. \nIn addition to critiquing the current state of the union for women with her crackling wit\, audiences can expect special “appearances” by a surprising range of real-life characters\, from Emily Post to Nate Bergatze to Marianne Williamson. The show also features some of Blaine’s hysterical cast of beloved original characters including her old Jewish Grandma\, Ruth (who will have you rolling with laughter at her dirty jokes) and her “everyman\,” Danny (who doles out dating advice for incels). \nReflecting on the incredible feat of debuting 18 solo performance works across 30 years of Fringe appearances\, Blaine says: “My art form is the solo show\, and it’s always an evolving craft\, where I employ the crucible of transformation. With this show\, I celebrate the sometimes quiet\, solitary struggle we are going through to overthrow the patriarchy\, each in our own unique way.” \nBlaine\, Philadelphia’s acclaimed solo performer\, comedienne\, and playwright “whose comic genius is like Lily Tomlin and Tracey Ullman” (Philadelphia Daily News)\, has been an outspoken feminist since she could walk. As a girl\, she marched for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)\, later became a Women’s Studies major at the famously progressive Wesleyan University\, and continues to speak out for women’s issues and experiences through her own extraordinary body of solo performance work.

The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by the audience’s personal descriptions. \nMid-show\, the ensemble chooses more cards to inspire a hilarious Speed Dating Game with a special twist you’ll wish you could use on your next date!

Since opening its doors in 2011\, the House has provided more than lodging – it has offered stability\, compassion\, and community during some of the most challenging moments a family can face. \nAs part of our 15th Anniversary celebration\, Gift of Life Howie’s House is excited to host our inaugural Birthday Bash on Friday\, October 2\, 2026 – an evening celebrating 15 years of hope\, healing\, and community for transplant families traveling to Philadelphia for lifesaving care. \nThe exciting event is open to everyone and will take place on Friday\, October 2nd at @FringeArts in Philly at 6PM. \nTickets purchased ahead of time are $50 and will help raise important funds to support our mission at the House. Each ticket includes: \n– Delicious Food \n– Alcohol and Beverages \n– 5 complimentary door prize tickets and a silent auction \nProceeds from the Birthday Bash directly support transplant patients and caregivers staying at Gift of Life Howie’s House – a 32-room healthcare hospitality house in Philadelphia that provides affordable lodging\, meals\, transportation\, and supportive services for families who must travel to Philadelphia to access lifesaving organ transplant care. \nIn 2025 alone\, the House provided more than 10\,000 nights of lodging\, 36\,000 meals\, and over 1\,400 shuttle rides to six local transplant centers. Families are asked to contribute only $40 per night\, regardless of the true cost of their stay\, and no eligible family is ever turned away due to financial hardship. Since opening our doors in 2011\, we have provided $17 Million in subsidized care for transplant patients and their families.
