SUMMARY:Journey Arts' Table Sessions: Kristal Sotomayor
DESCRIPTION:Journey Arts’ beloved Table Sessions returns in April\, curated by award-winning filmmaker Kristal Sotomayor. Prime yourself for an ebullient evening with the boisterous sounds of the kumbia-klezmer-punk collective Mariposas Galácticas\, whose music is inspired by their Ancestor’s shared roots in “radical joy.” \nThen sit forward for a screening of Kristal’s short film Expanding Sanctuary  — the winner of the 2024 BlackStar Philadelphia Filmmaker Award — which flips the script on the current moment by telling the story of an immigrant mother’s triumphant fight for safety for Philly families. \nAnd\, of course\, leave filled not only with joy\, but with a delicious dinner by the James Beard Award-winning Chef Cristina Martínez of South Philly Barbacoa.

SUMMARY:Free art show- A Likeness Now Seen
DESCRIPTION:May 1st – June 30th \nArtist reception- May 22nd 6-9pm \nBlack Moth Gallery presents a group exhibition exploring form as subject by contemporary artists. The collection of artworks addresses issues of self-identity\, body type acceptance\, intimacy and aging. Working in various mediums from timeless practices to exploring new materials and techniques\, artists demonstrate their appreciation of the human figure. Some exercise mastery of classic renderings of the subject while others seek expressive interpretations and inspirations of the all so familiar forms\, albeit infinitely unique. \n  \nThese modern examples of a classic motif naturally register with us because what we recognize is most familiar\, a variation of the material self. These are moments in the finite life of another being\, stilled and eternalized\, sometimes venerated. A story is told\, energy is felt\, and technical skills are admired. The intimacy of engaging a portrait or figure painting will always be reflective\, enticing\, and esteemed\, from the experience the of artist to that of the viewer. \n  \nA portion of the proceeds from this show will support Domestic Violence Center of Chester County. \n  \nInvited artists: \n\nJessica Bednarcik\nMashiul Chowdhury\nKatherine Fraser\nThomas Tustin\nTony Ward\nBarbara Zanelli

SUMMARY:NYC Bound Solo Show - Shatterproof
DESCRIPTION:Shatterproof-NYC Bound Solo Show \nA fast moving\, spell-binding tragic-comedy. A story about the life of a gifted artist and ingenious comedian who becomes schizophrenic and takes off hitchhiking across America in a futile effort to outrun his mental illness.  \nArrives at 2026 Philadelphia Fringe Festival \, Limited Engagement\, September 18-27\, 2026 \n“As Director\, I am so excited to bring this beautiful piece to the Philadelphia Fringe Festival” – Eric Tucker\, Artistic Director\, Bedlam Theatre Co\, NYC \n“It is a privilege to be let into her world. When this raw honesty is revealed\, its gravity is gripping” – All About Solo\, United Solo Festival \n“Monologues explode like bombs in slow motion…Ms. Block’s performance was brilliant.” – Hi-Drama\, William Cataldi \n\n\n\nMEDIA KIT FOR DOWNLOAD\n\n\n\nPhiladelphia\, PA: What if you thought the funniest and saddest thing you could ever write/act would be the story of your crazy brother taken directly from his own “manifesto” about his own illness?  In Shatterproof\, a solo show written and performed by Dana Block\, that’s exactly what is going down.  Dana Block draws on a world created by her brother in cartoons\, rants and ravings\, and tells the story of their artistic Jewish family in rural Missouri\, bringing each character fully to life on stage\, including the hallucinated ones!  In this boiling pot of mental illness and art\, life is precariously balanced.  This beautifully imagined one-woman show\, directed by award-winning Artistic Director of Bedlam Theatre Co\, Eric Tucker\, is headed to an Off-Broadway debut in November\, 2026.  It is not to be missed. Shatterproof is a true story\, given voice by a sibling who knows first hand\, the heartbreak of trying to save someone who is irretrievably lost.  Shatterproof (formerly produced as “Monkey Man” ) has been called “hilarious and heart breaking.” The limited engagement will play Icebox Project Space Gallery (1400 N American St\, Philadelphia\, PA) from September 18-27\, 2026. Tickets are available now via this link. \nShatterproof\, Dana Block’s autobiographical dark comedy comes to Philadelphia for three performances on September 18\, 26\, and 27 before its anticipated NYC Showcase run. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking\, the play tells the story of a sister’s quest to help her younger brother — a gifted artist and comedian (think Robyn Williams) – whose schizophrenia sends him on the road hitchhiking for decades. Inspired by Block’s own experiences growing up in a close-knit Jewish family\, Shatterproof gives voice to the sibling experience of losing a cherished loved one to an illness whose only promise is\, it cannot be cured.   \nShatterproof shares a wildly funny portrait of an artistic Jewish family from St. Joseph\, Missouri\, before unfolding the extraordinary story of Dana’s relationship with her brother. As a teenager\, Marc’s schizophrenia leads him to hitchhike across America in an attempt to outrun his illness and find himself. Twenty years later\, Dana begins a journey of her own—to try to bring back her brother.  \nThe original material for the show is drawn from Marc’s journals\, drawings\, and writings\, and brings audiences inside both the brilliance and chaos of his mental illness. Through humor\, honesty and compassion\, the play invites audiences to laugh at Marc\, laugh with Marc\, and fall in love with Marc and his utterly mischievous personality. \nThe title Shatterproof reflects the role Dana found herself playing within her family: the person who could hold the center and the only person who had the guts to go out and to try to find him. Dana discovered that loving her brother did not mean having the power to make decisions for him — it meant learning to accept that regardless\, he had possession of his own life and that it was his right to live it as he wanted. \nAt a time when conversations about mental health have never been more urgent\, Shatterproof reminds us that behind every diagnosis is a family painfully navigating impossible choices—and that even in our darkest moments\, laughter can become an act of survival. Catch Shatterproof before its Off-Broadway run and experience this extraordinary true story. \n### \nShatterproof \nWritten by Dana Block \nPerformed by Dana Block \nDirected by Eric Tucker \nIcebox Project Space Gallery (1400 N American St\, Philadelphia\, PA) \nPerformances September 18-27\, 2026 \nTickets at FringeArts.com \nBIOS \nDana Block (Actor) is a classically trained actor and writer who has created and toured 4 original solo shows\, and developed a full-length play under the tutelage of Edward Albee\, acting Master Playwright at Road Less Traveled Theater in Buffalo\, NY\, 2010. Other credits include: lead in Richard Foreman film “Once Every Day\, ” awarded Best of NY Independent Film; BroadwayWorld Best Supporting Actress\, Silda “Other Desert Cities;” multiple regional theater productions; work with Michael Kahn in D.C.\, The Shakespeare Theater Co. (MFA); Lucille Ball Comedy Festival “My Favorite Husband\, ” directed by Greg Oppenheimer\, on SIRIS Radio; radio host for “We Are Vermont.” \nEric Tucker (Director) is a multi-award winning Director and Actor\, and Artistic Director of Bedlam Theater Company\, an Off Broadway Theater Co. in NYC. He is currently directing “Music City\, ” (book by Peter Zinn and music and lyrics by songwriter JT Harding) which will open June 15 at Theater At St. Lukes. “Are the Bennet Girls OK?\, ” a critically acclaimed\, irreverent stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Emily Breeze\, will open at The Public Theater in early 2027\, also directed by Tucker. \nBob Stachel (NYC Showcase Producer) His career spans theatre\, film\, and technology. He has directed many professional productions in the Boston area; served on the Advisory Board of Double Edge Theatre in Ashfield\, MA; collaborated with local playwrights and produced several festivals of new work as co-director of Shadow Boxing Theatre Workshop in Cambridge\, MA. SUMMARY:Villanova Theatre Presents The Moors
DESCRIPTION:Villanova Theatre Presents The Moors\, from September 24 through October 4 at the Mullen Center for the Performing Arts – Court Theatre. On the desolate English moors\, a household of women guards its secrets with the same quiet care it devotes to everything else. When a governess arrives expecting a conventional post\, she discovers unwritten rules\, shifting alliances\, and very real danger. In The Moors\, every character aches to be loved\, recognized\, or feared — and at least one of them is willing to kill for it. At turns humorous\, savage\, and seductive\, Silverman’s inspired take on the Brontë sisters’ celebrated novels is a dark comedy steeped in Victorian atmosphere. Come for the gothic intrigue. Stay for the lovestruck dog.

SUMMARY:Remembered Objects in Paper Mache (Spring 2)
DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nHave you ever lost something special or maybe something special has lost its use? Your best winter hat? Your favorite VHS tape? We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. In 2025 she was the subject of a solo exhibit at the Philadelphia International Airport\, participated in 11 group exhibitions in Philadelphia and New York and was a nominee for the Pew Fellowship. \nInstagram – @sophie6598\nWebsite – SophieCWhite.com

SUMMARY:The Adoption Game
DESCRIPTION:WHO GETS TO TELL THE STORY?  \nThe Adoption Game turns transracial adoption into a darkly funny\, live game show written and performed by transracial adoptee Andrew Watring\, and directed by Gabe Moses\, invites audiences to play along—and reconsider who gets to control the stories we tell about family. \nUpstream Performance Collaborative presents the world premiere of The Adoption Game\, a darkly funny\, deeply personal\, interactive solo performance written and performed by Philadelphia theatre artist and transracial adoptee Andrew Watring. Presented through Cannonball’s Immersive Track Cohort as part of the 2026 Philadelphia Fringe Festival\, the production runs for just three performances\, September 25–27\, 2026\, at Asian Arts Initiative’s Black Box Theater. \nBilled as “America’s one-and-only adoption-themed game show\,” The Adoption Game transforms the theatre into a live studio audience. Under the watchful eye of dazzling host Andre Devon\, spectators encounter applause signs\, prizes\, audience games\, commercial breaks\, and all the polished machinery of televised entertainment. Beneath the spectacle is a more vulnerable question: What happens when the child at the center of an adoption story finally gets to control the narrative?

SUMMARY:Priority Hoarding: A Retrospectacle

You may recognize something as your own\, or find something you never knew you were carrying. \nMade for anyone who has ever lost a bag\, gotten stuck\, or missed a (metaphoric) flight\, this trans(formational) installation asks: how do you know it’s time to move on when you don’t know where you’re going? \nProduced by The Bearded Ladies Cabaret\nPart of FringeArt’s 2026 Festival & Collective Futures \nInstallation on view September 10-December 20\, 2026\nat The Hairport | 444 N 3rd Street\, Philadelphia PA 19123 \nInstallation hours:\nWednesday\, Thursday & Friday 4-9PM | Last timed entry at 8:15PM\nSaturday & Sunday 11AM-3PM| Last timed entry at 2:15PM \nLive events at The Hairport | Saturdays at 8PM \nThe Hairport is an interactive\, immersive installation filled with costumes\, cardboard props\, and other ephemera from the Bearded Ladies Cabaret’s 16-year performance history. Visitors will make their way through a sprawling multi-room space made to look like a fantastical\, metaphorical “airport”. Visitors will be invited to interact with components of the installation and may encounter docents in guiding roles. The experience will culminate in a “lounge” space full of “Bearded baggage” which will also serve as the performance site for the Now Hoarding: In-Flight Entertainment live event series. \nIt will take visitors approximately 60-75 minutes to view the entirety of the Priority Hoarding installation. SUMMARY:Philly Fringe Solo Comedy Show About The Raw Deal of Being a Woman
DESCRIPTION:Why have women been handed such a “Raw Deal\,” and what can we do about it? \nFrom rights being erased\, to still carrying most of the household labor\, women are still buckling under many of the challenges their great-grandmothers marched for. If we laugh about it\, can we transform it? \nIn her 18th original solo show across 30 years of Philadelphia Fringe Festival appearances\, Jennifer Blaine playfully confronts today’s challenging reality for women through a personal lens. Armed with her brilliant impersonation skills\, and her virtuosic ability to juggle humor and poignant perspectives\, Blaine illustrates how she transforms her Raw Deal into a source of strength\, inspiration\, and power. \nIn addition to critiquing the current state of the union for women with her crackling wit\, audiences can expect special “appearances” by a surprising range of real-life characters\, from Emily Post to Nate Bergatze to Marianne Williamson. The show also features some of Blaine’s hysterical cast of beloved original characters including her old Jewish Grandma\, Ruth (who will have you rolling with laughter at her dirty jokes) and her “everyman\,” Danny (who doles out dating advice for incels). \nReflecting on the incredible feat of debuting 18 solo performance works across 30 years of Fringe appearances\, Blaine says: “My art form is the solo show\, and it’s always an evolving craft\, where I employ the crucible of transformation. Some shows have been pure stand-up\, some have 12 characters with no narration\, some have songs\, some are highly interactive\, some are satirical. ‘Raw Deal’ combines many of these elements\, along with some personal confessions of raw deals in my life that I believe will resonate in their absurdity and universality. With this show\, I celebrate the sometimes quiet\, solitary struggle we are going through to overthrow the patriarchy\, each in our own unique way.” \nBlaine\, Philadelphia’s acclaimed solo performer\, comedienne\, and playwright “whose comic genius is like Lily Tomlin and Tracey Ullman” (Philadelphia Daily News)\, has been an outspoken feminist since she could walk. As a girl\, she marched for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)\, later became a Women’s Studies major at the famously progressive Wesleyan University\, and continues to speak out for women’s issues and experiences through her own extraordinary body of solo performance work.
