This public art exhibition is neighborhood-wide and features 19 site-specific installations created from poems by Germantown residents impacted by gun violence. Developed in community poetry workshops\, the poems have been transformed into a variety of dynamic visual artwork including collage posters\, video installations\, augmented reality constellations\, interactive floral offerings\, and stained-glass panels on a SEPTA bus shelter. As we reflect upon the city’s development\, its strengths and its shortcomings\, how can we best shape a future for Philadelphia’s people? \nObjects on display are from the Children’s Literature Research Collection\, Government Publications\, the Map Collection\, and the Print and Picture Collection. It highlights not only the perspectives of well-known figures such as Benjamin Franklin\, John Dickinson\, Thomas Jefferson\, John Adams\, and James Wilson\, but also the experiences and evolving views of ordinary Philadelphians.

Renowned Kentucky-based artist and teacher with a career spanning over 50 years\, Isaacs’s work has been exhibited in major galleries in Chicago\, Philadelphia\, and New York\, with work residing in multiple private and corporate collections. Currently\, the largest public collection is housed in the Racine Museum of Art in Wisconsin. \nBy using objects such as garments\, tools\, and organic materials\, Isaacs explores the narrative of objects and their relation to mortality\, memory\, and the passage of time. Through the process of creating an installation with objects in a still-life setting\, Isaacs experiments with birch\, plywood\, and acrylic paint to construct his work. \nAs a trained painter\, Isaacs employs techniques similar to those of the old masters to create a composition reminiscent of traditional two-dimensional work. By balancing form\, texture\, and light\, Isaacs’ work explores the elements of memory\, the passage of time\, and how objects can evoke memory.

This project points directly at this omission by making literal Room For Grief – dedicated\, intentional space where these themes are expressed\, witnessed and held in community. \nGuests are invited to walk through the rooms of a house built by grief\, woven together with the art that has helped us survive. Let our robust and diverse group of contributors show you what it is like to live\, heal\, struggle\, cope and offer sanctuary for mourning at a time where the burden of grief in daily life is overwhelming. DESCRIPTION:The Philly Pride Arts Festival (Pride AF) was created by a coalition of five Philadelphia-based arts organizations: Cross Keys Theatre Collective\, East Passyunk Opera Project\, Liberty City Arts\, Prismatic Arts Ensemble\, and Wear Yellow Proudly. Together\, we are presenting a month-long\, citywide celebration of LGBTQIA+ artists\, stories\, and community. \nRunning throughout Pride Month at various locations across Philadelphia\, the festival will feature performances\, concerts\, cabaret\, outdoor events\, and community engagement activities\, highlighting the depth and diversity of the city’s queer artistic landscape. \nAffectionately branded Philly PrideAF\, the festival is co-produced to pool resources\, audiences\, and creative vision. This model allows the festival to be rooted in artistic excellence\, access\, and collective care. \nIn addition to its five producers\, the festival is partnering with LGBTQIA+-affirming artists and allies\, local businesses\, and community organizations throughout the month\, including boom-bap jazz band Mobbluz\, Altissimo Arts\, and independent bookstores. The festival will also collaborate with mutual aid organizations doing critical work for LGBTQIA+ communities in Philadelphia\, with a different organization highlighted at each event and opportunities for audiences to learn more and contribute directly through material and monetary donations.

We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. Four visionary choreographers\, Morgann Runacre-Temple (Summer)\, Penny Saunders (Fall)\, Jamar Roberts (Winter)\, and Trey McIntyre (Spring)\, each bring a distinct season to life\, revealing nature as the driving force at the heart of the story: fragile\, fierce\, and magnificently alive. \nWith visually arresting costumes and scenic design by Emma Kingsbury and evocative lighting by Christopher Ash\, the production surrounds audiences in a fully realized sensory environment. Music unfolds in real time\, movement surges through shifting landscapes\, and light transforms the stage into a world in constant evolution.
