They provide financial support to 37 historically Black colleges and universities\, as the nation’s leading advocate for  minority-education and community engagement.  Beyond the numbers are real human stories and faces behind the Masked Ball. Most are first-generation college students who are ambitious but come from struggling households with annual incomes less than $45\,000. UNCF gives them an opportunity to realize their full potential. Since 1944\, UNCF has assisted students to pursue their educational aspirations while supporting private Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with critical operational funding. The Mayor’s Masked Ball is hosted by UNCF in more than 20 cities nationwide and is the organization’s chief fundraiser. In Philadelphia\, the event has raised nearly $9 million\, since its inception. Events\, such as this\, assist UNCF nationally in supporting its students and schools. In 2024\, the Philadelphia Office awarded 210 scholarships to students residing or attending schools in the area\, totaling $1.9 million. Mayor Cherelle L. SUMMARY:Introduction to Needle Felting
DESCRIPTION:Students will learn how to use felting needles to condense wool fibers into soft-sculptures. This workshop will cover the basics of needle felting\, understanding barbed needles\, angling\, troubleshooting\, and exploring additive and subtractive techniques. By the end of the 6 weeks\, students will walk away with their own soft-sculptures made of wool.
