SUMMARY:Urinetown
DESCRIPTION:This hilarious and subversive musical depicts a drought stricken dystopian society where private toilets are outlawed and there is a fee to pee. When a custodian of Public Facility #9 decides he’s had enough of the megacorporation\, Urine Good Company\, he leads his community in a revolution to free citizens from the financial burden of paying to pee. This three-time Tony Award-winning musical saw success both on and off-Broadway in the early 2000s and was recently nominated for a Drama League Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical in 2025. Urinetown remains a beloved political satire that delivers a perfect stream of irreverent humor aimed at capitalism\, social justice\, environmental collapse\, and musical theater itself.

SUMMARY:America 250 Bus Tour: Revolution & Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Baltimore was a key city in the fight for Independence. Did you know Edgar Allan Poe’s grandparents were famous Revolutionary War patriots in Baltimore? \nJoin us for an America 250 bus tour through Baltimore’s Revolutionary past\, where the fight for independence lives on in headstone\, story\, and street. Along the way\, discover the Edgar Allan Poe family’s Revolutionary roots and the lives of Baltimore’s signers of the Declaration of Independence. Tours meet inside the Baltimore Visitor Center at the Inner Harbor. \nThe first stop on this special commemorative tour is Westminster Hall & Burying Ground. World-famous as the final resting place of Edgar Allan Poe\, this hallowed ground is also home to over 300 patriots of the American Revolution and War of 1812—including Poe’s own family. Immigrants\, women\, and working-class heroes like David and Elizabeth Poe\, who aided The Marquis de Lafayette’s troops\, are buried alongside towering figures like General Samuel Smith\, James McHenry\, and Rev. Patrick Allison\, chaplain to the first Continental Congress and an early voice for the separation of church and state. \nThe tour continues with history of two Baltimore signers of the Declaration of Independence: a visit to Old St. Paul’s Cemetery\, where Samuel Chase\, the United States’ first impeached Supreme Court Justice\, is laid to rest\, and then the historic Carroll Mansion where Charles Carroll of Carrollton (the only Catholic signer) spent his final days and where the very bed in which he died remains on display. \nWhether you’re a lifelong Marylander or a first-time visitor\, “Revolution & Remembrance” invites you to see Baltimore’s Revolutionary roots through fresh eyes\, and to reflect on the diverse people who helped shape a nation.

SUMMARY:Squirrel Nut Zippers to Celebrate 30 Years of Hot at City Winery Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:The “In the Afterlife” Show Features Hits from the Breakthrough Record \n  \nWhen Hot first hit the airwaves in 1996\, it didn’t just ignite excitement — it sparked a cultural bonfire. With its infectious blend of swing\, jazz\, Delta blues\, and Southern storytelling\, Hot rocketed the Squirrel Nut Zippers from the underground scene of Chapel Hill\, NC\, to the national stage\, achieving Platinum status and defining a generation’s rediscovery of vintage Americana. \nNow\, three decades later\, the Zippers are rekindling that fire with “In the Afterlife” tour dates\, a 30th anniversary celebration of the album that captured lightning in a bottle and cemented the band’s legacy as one of the most original and unpredictable acts of the era. The tour will hit City Winery Philadelphia on April 22 at 7:30 PM and tickets are available at https://www.snzippers.com/tourdates. \nRecorded in an old farmhouse outside New Orleans\, Hot radiated authenticity. The album’s warm analog sound and wry\, vivid storytelling made it a critical and commercial success\, topping the Billboard 200 for an impressive 51 weeks. The record produced standout tracks such as “Put a Lid On It\,” “Blue Angel\,” and the band’s biggest hit to date\, “Hell.” \n“Hell\,” an unlikely radio single at the time\, defied expectations\, climbing to #13 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay Chart and embedding itself in pop culture history. Nearly 30 years later\, it continues to resonate with new audiences\, recently featured in hit TV series like Wednesday (2025) and Lucifer (2021). \n\n“Hot was pure alchemy — a mix of mischief\, melody\, and magic\,” said bandleader Jimbo Mathus. “It was never meant to chase trends; it was meant to burn bright and last. And somehow\, it still does.” \n\nFormed in 1993 by Mathus\, Katharine Whalen\, and a tight-knit crew of musical misfits\, the Squirrel Nut Zippers defied genre from the start. Their sound — a spirited blend of prohibition-era jazz\, big band bravado\, and punk-rock irreverence — invited listeners into a world where vaudeville met voodoo and speakeasy swagger met Southern soul. \nLed today by Mathus\, the modern-day Zippers continue to honor that rich legacy while bringing fresh fire to their beloved catalog. The 30th anniversary of Hot is more than a milestone — it’s a testament to resilience\, reinvention\, and the enduring power of music that swings\, sings\, and sizzles with soul.
