SUMMARY:Bees Deluxe Play Jamey’s House of Music with The Corty Byron Band
DESCRIPTION:Lansdowne\, PA — October 25\, 2025 — Boston’s acid blues quartet\, Bees Deluxe\, returns to Jamey’s House of Music\, 32 S Lansdowne Ave. in Lansdowne Pennsylvania\, on Saturday\, October 25 for an electrifying evening of modern blues. Fresh off their recent victory as the 2025 Granite State Blues Society Challenge Winners\, the band will represent New England at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, Tennessee in January 2026. Sharing the stage for the first time at Jamey’s will be Lancaster County favorites\, The Corty Byron Band\, bringing an extra excitement to what promises to be a stellar evening of entertainment. \nBees Deluxe refuses to fit neatly into traditional blues categories. The quartet—fronted by British guitar sensation Conrad Warre\, feature Carol Band on keyboards\, harmonicas\, and vocals and Paul Giovine on drums and percussion\, and renowned NY Jazz musician Jeff Lopez on bass—are celebrated for their fearless fusion of Chicago blues\, jazz\, funk\, and rock. Touring extensively from Maine to Miami\, the group has honed its sound in venues ranging from intimate clubs and dive bars to large theaters and festivals. \nAudiences can expect Bees Deluxe to deliver a mix of inventive originals alongside reimagined classics by legends such as Etta James\, Billie Holiday\, Bobby “Blue” Bland\, Albert Collins\, and Fenton Robinson. Their ability to transform familiar songs into wholly new experiences has drawn comparisons to “what Steely Dan would sound like if they played the blues.” \nCritics have praised the band’s adventurous spirit\, describing their live performances as unpredictable\, exhilarating\, and deeply creative. John Muller of the North Jersey Blues Society wrote: “Think of music produced by Willy Wonka and Frank Zappa…Chicago blues takes a few tabs of acid and the results are a fascinating kaleidoscope of pulsating dreams\, visions\, and even nightmares. Enjoy this roller coaster ride…Welcome to the music of Bees Deluxe.” \nThe members of Bees Deluxe bring a wealth of experience and varied musical backgrounds to their performances. Frontman Conrad Warre toured with the Joe Jackson Band in Europe and was a fixture at New York’s iconic CBGBs. Together\, their musical chemistry creates performances that are as technically dazzling as they are emotionally engaging. The band has shared stages with Walter Trout\, Roomful of Blues\, Ronnie Earl\, Joanne Shaw Taylor\, Joanna Connor\, Mike Zito\, and Matt Schofield. \nThe Corty Byron Band Joins the Lineup \nAdding to the night’s energy\, The Corty Byron Band will make their Jamey’s debut. Longtime favorites in Lancaster County\, they bring their own brand of high-energy blues and roots rock\, promising a perfect complement to Bees Deluxe’s progressive acid blues. \nRenowned as one of the region’s premier listening rooms\, Jamey’s House of Music provides the perfect setting for an evening of adventurous blues. With its intimate acoustics\, stellar sound system\, and welcoming atmosphere\, it has become a must-play venue for artists across genres and a beloved destination for music fans in the Philadelphia area. \nEvent Details\n• What: Bees Deluxe with The Corty Byron Band\n• Where: Jamey’s House of Music\, 32 S Lansdowne Ave\, Lansdowne\, PA 19050\n• When: Saturday\, October 25\, 2025\, Showtime – 8pm\n• TICKETS: $25 online advance / $30 door / bit.ly/Jameys_Oct25\nFor more information about Bees Deluxe\, please visit: www.beesdeluxe.com\nand for Corty Byron vist: cortyandthelight.com

SUMMARY:Profs & Pints Philadelphia: A Guide to Witches
DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Philadelphia presents: “A Guide to Witches\,” on the figure of the witch in history\, legend\, folklore\, and fairy tales\, with Linda Lee\, lecturer in folklore and literature at the University of Pennsylvania. \nGet ready for something spellbinding: A look at various depictions of witches as reflections of ideas about female sexuality\, independence\, agency\, and power. \nOffering up this pre-Halloween treat will be folklorist Linda Lee\, who earned rave reviews in giving this talk at the Black Squirrel Club a year ago and has captivated audiences at this Fishtown venue with her past discussions of dark Christmas folklore and the goddess Persephone. \nWe’ll start with an introduction to witches from European folklore\, fairy tales\, and legends. You’ll learn how they’re generally portrayed as powerful\, solitary\, and defiant figures who can be either helpful or harmful. They may appear as mothers\, helpers who aid heroes on quests\, or monsters to be vanquished. They can represent a threat to the community by snatching children or by pilfering cows’ milk. \nIndividual witches who will be conjured up include the child-eating witch from Grimms’ “Hansel and Gretel” and Baba Yaga\, the ambiguous witch of Slavic folklore who lives in a hut on chicken legs and flies around inside a giant mortar while clutching a big pestle. Lee contrasts such fictional depictions with the ideas about witches and witchcraft espoused by Christian demonological thought. \nYou’ll learn how witches are described by early modern sources like Malleus Maleficarum\, the 15th-century treatise on witchcraft which also served as a witch hunters’ manual. Such texts presented witches as entirely malevolent figures who gain magical powers through a pact with the Devil (usually signed with menstrual blood). They depicted witches as using a special ointment that empowers them to fly to a Witches’ Sabbath to dance and perform demonic rituals. \nYou’ll see how such ideas were visually reinforced through engravings\, woodcuts\, and drawings\, by artists like Albrecht Dürer\, that depicted naked women riding broomsticks and dancing with devils. \nYou’ll come away with a better understanding of why witches are among the most versatile\, notorious\, and enduring figures from fairy tales and legends and remain an iconic part of contemporary Halloween traditions. Feel free to dress witchy if you wish. (Advance tickets: $13.50 plus processing fees. Doors: $17\, or $15 with a student ID. Doors open at 3:30 pm. Talk starts at 4:30. ) \nImage: From “Preparation for the Witches’ Sabbath\,” by 17th Century Flemish artist David Teniers the Younger.
