SUMMARY:Old Academy Players presents Disenchanted!
DESCRIPTION:Disenchanted! By Dennis T. Giacino\nDirected by Annie Hnatko \nApril 25th\, 26th; May 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, 2025\nFriday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m.\, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. \nPoison apples and lost slippers are just the beginning. The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture\, so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know — these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth. Received an “Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and a “Best New Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Off-Broadway Alliance). \nContent Warning: Contains adult language and content.

Unbeknownst to her\, a friend entered it in the Great American Play Contest at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. The play was first performed in February 1979 at the Actors Theatre Louisville and it was named co-winner of the contest. The play continued to be developed\, with productions in Los Gatos\, St. Louis\, and Baltimore at the Centre Stage Theatre. \nThe Manhattan Theatre Club produced the play Off-Broadway at Stage 73\, from December 9\, 1980\, to January 11\, 1981\, for 35 sold-out performances. Such is Miss Henley’s prodigious talent that she can serve us pain as though it were a piece of cake.” —The New York Times. \n“It has heart\, wit and a surprisingly zany passion that must carry all before it…it would certainly be a crime for anyone interested in the theatre not to see this play.” —New York Post \n“From time to time a play comes along that restores one’s faith in our theatre…” —New York Magazine. \nSynopsis: The tragicomedy relates the story of the three Magrath sisters\, Meg\, Babe\, and Lenny\, who reunite at Old Granddaddy’s home in Hazelhurst\, Mississippi\, after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The sisters were raised in a dysfunctional family with a penchant for ugly predicaments. Each has endured her share of hardship and misery. SUMMARY:Labyrinth of the Other
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated Philadelphia performer Severin Blake premieres their first solo work\, LABYRINTH OF THE OTHER (LOTO) – a queer reimagining of the Minotaur myth. A company member of immersive theater collective Applied Mechanics\, Severin Blake has spent years meditating on this ancient Greek story – an interspecies child\, othered by the world and imprisoned in a maze. Part performance\, part immersive ritual\, LOTO asks: Who are we beneath the mask of the monster? Who gets to define what the word monster means? LOTO is a ritual container for personal and collective healing. LABYRINTH OF THE OTHER  is an intimate immersive theatrical experience led by performer Severin Blake. Audience members may choose to shape their journey from a menu of “intentions” – deciding for themselves what path they would like to take through the narrative.

By the end of the performance series\, the hope is to create a small album’s worth of music to be released following the completion of performances\, with the audience members being given writing credits. The goal is to erase the line between the artist and the musician\, and begin the audience’s participation in the work from the very beginning. Part performance\, part workshop\, part improv show- get your notebooks and pencils ready\, because it’s time to make an album!

SUMMARY:A(mobile)DRIFT
DESCRIPTION:For Immediate Release \n  \nA(mobile)DRIFT: An Observational Art Bus Drift from City to Country \nHey friends! Ready for something totally unique? Join us on September 20\, 2025\, at 1 pm for our playful\, off-the-rails (in the best way) participatory project—A(mobile)DRIFT—from the heart of Philadelphia out to the charming fields around Cochranville\, PA. \nWe’ll kick things off at A Man Full of Trouble\, the cozy (and delightfully quirky) tasting room of Succession Fermentory in Old City Philly—part art project\, part time capsule of local flavor. From there\, we’re hopping aboard our drift-mobile (aka art bus) and heading west\, from the buzzy city pulse to the open expanses of rural Pennsylvania. \nDuring the ride\, keep your eyes peeled\, your sketchbooks open\, and your camera ready—this isn’t just any bus trip. You’ll be invited to observe\, sketch\, photograph\, and reflect on the shifting landscapes and what the journey reveals about how place shapes us\, and vice versa. \nMid-journey\, we’ll make a special stop led by Keith Hartwig of Succession Fermentory. Get hands-on: he’ll guide us in foraging wild botanicals—think curious leaves and roots that might end up in our creative brew. Your finds might even become part of the Becoming Succession exhibition back at Street Road! \nWhen we arrive at Street Road Artists Space\, you’ll be greeted with a reception for Becoming Succession\, the new show that bubbles with stories of farms\, ferments\, and the land that binds us. Plus\, your own sketches and observations will join other participants’ contributions on display—you become part of the artwork itself. \nFinally\, our drift ends as the bus brings us full circle—back to Philly around 7 pm\, full of new sights\, stories\, and maybe even a few treasures from the field. All this for just $15\, with pay-what-you-can options available. \nWhether you’re an art wanderer\, plant lover\, or just someone wanting to shake up your weekend\, A(mobile)DRIFT is a delightfully unexpected way to travel between worlds—literally and imaginatively. \nWho’s Who at Street Road Artists Space (Cochranville\, PA) \n\nEmily Artinian – Founder of Street Road Artists Space\, Emily is the driving force behind this experimental venue\, connecting rural Pennsylvania with global ideas in art and writing.\nCarol Maurer – Artist and walking fellow-traveller\, Carol brings a reflective\, path-making spirit to Street Road’s projects.\nEmily Manko – The behind-the-scenes powerhouse at Street Road\, Emily keeps everything running smoothly and adds her own creative spark.\nHannah LeVasseur – Artist and plant enthusiast\, Hannah is co-curator (with Keith Hartwig) of Becoming Succession at Street Road\, exploring how farms\, ferments\, and art intertwine.\nKeith Hartwig – Artist\, designer\, and part of Philly’s Succession Fermentory and A Man Full of Trouble. Keith is a guest collaborator at Street Road and co-curator (with Hannah) of Becoming Succession. For A(mobile)DRIFT\, he’ll lead the foraging stop\, opening our senses to the wild botanicals around us.

SUMMARY:Creating Stability in Meditation Half Day Course
DESCRIPTION:The practice of meditation requires skillful consistency and structure. Thankfully\, we have many helpful examples of how to create these in a modern lifestyle. The way of Kadampa Buddhism is to fully integrate our practice into our modern busy life\, recognizing that meditation and daily life work together seamlessly. There are literally countless opportunities throughout our day for training our mind and stabilizing the good intentions of our meditation practice. \nIn this half-day course learn practical methods to increase the energy of our meditation practice and improve our concentration. \nThis course will be taught by Resident Teacher John Baker.  John Baker is the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center Philadelphia. Having been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 25 years\, he is well-qualified to pass along modern Buddhism. John has engaged in extensive Dharma study and retreat.
