The number of parks throughout Philadelphia increases dramatically each year on the third Friday in September\, when activists\, artists\, architects\, and other citizens transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. Known as PARKing) Day\, this annual event re-imagines the possibilities of 140 square feet of public space. The event is a global\, public\, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer\, greener\, and more equitable streets for people. \nHow did it start? PARK(ing) Day was founded by Rebar\, a San Francisco art and design studio\, in 2005 to raise awareness of the need for green spaces in urban environments. Philadelphia celebrated PARK(ing) Day for the first time in 2008 with over 25 installations for relaxing\, cycling\, creating art\, education\, and socializing.

Buddha taught how our thoughts are internal paths – when channeled in a beneficial direction\, and supported by logic and reasoning\, they can actually guide us to a stable heartfelt experience of peace and relaxation. \nThis half-day course will be guided by Gen Kelsang Wangpo\, a visiting guest teacher from Kadampa Meditation Center Texas. He will give teachings and guide meditations on the use of contemplation in a meditation practice.  \nGen Kelsang Wangpo has been a devoted student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 20 years\, he has taught Kadampa Buddhism across the U.S. Gen Wangpo is known for his practical approach to presenting ancient Buddhist wisdom. He is deeply appreciated for his clear\, inspiring teachings and his ability to connect with others through loving-kindness and compassionate care. With particular skill in presenting profound topics in an accessible way\, Gen Wangpo helps everyone engage with Buddha’s teachings on a deeper level.

She is the recipient of fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts\, MASS MoCA\, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts\, The Mount\, Oregon Literary Arts\, Carolyn Moore Writers’ House\, and Lambda Literary. She holds an MFA from the University of Oregon and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville where she teaches writing. DESCRIPTION:Cadence in the Clouds is a new kind of industry night here in the City of Brotherly Love! This unique concert experience is made to celebrate the dreamers and creatives of Philadelphia. Cadence in the Clouds is not just a show; it showcases multiple avenues of the arts while putting multiple tools and resources for Philly artists in one room where they can connect through music\, art\, and new memories to foster collaboration and helping one another further their careers. We want to show artists that they don’t need to go to New York or Los Angeles to thrive in their artistic endeavors\, they can do it right here with the right resources. \nThe night begins at 6 PM\, at the Level 28 in University City. We have tapped in with local artists and entrepreneurs of all types to create the event\, encouraging collaboration and partnership to help make dreams happen. DJ Bear-One will be setting the tone for the night\, spinning all of Hip-Hop’s finest. Kuf Knots and Christine Elise\, a dynamic harpist and rapper/producer duo will be performing an electric set\, and will be followed up by Every Ave\, a soulful rapper ready to rep his city. You will also be able to enjoy an incredible bar with specialty cocktails for purchase\, as well as complementary bites.
