SUMMARY:Old Academy Players presents Disenchanted!
DESCRIPTION:Disenchanted! By Dennis T. Giacino\nDirected by Annie Hnatko \nApril 25th\, 26th; May 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, 2025\nFriday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m.\, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. \nPoison apples and lost slippers are just the beginning. The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture\, so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know — these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth. Received an “Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and a “Best New Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Off-Broadway Alliance). \nContent Warning: Contains adult language and content.

SUMMARY:Tongue & Groove: Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2006\, Tongue & Groove performs spontaneous theater – from hilarious to heartbreaking – inspired by real life experiences. \nIn October’s Secrets show\, each audience member is given an index card\, a pen\, and a provocative prompt: “Share a secret you keep.” Encouraged to answer honestly\, the audience anonymously submits their responses\, which are randomly drawn by the actors and read aloud. The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by their audience-collaborators’ submissions\, exploring the experiences that connect us all.

SUMMARY:Germanic Wines: Austria\, Switzerland\, and Germany
DESCRIPTION:Step off the beaten path and into the heart of Central Europe’s most compelling wine regions. In this class\, we’ll dive deep into the wines of Austria\, Switzerland\, and Germany—three countries that share more than a linguistic root. Their vineyards are shaped by ancient rivers\, steep hillsides\, and centuries of cultural exchange. \nSwiss wines remain elusive outside their borders\, yet insiders know: these high-altitude bottles offer purity and precision like few others. Austrian wines are a study in extremes—blazing acidity\, bold reds\, and whites with structure and soul. And then there’s Germany. Revered for Riesling\, yes—but there’s far more to discover beneath the surface. \nThis isn’t just a tasting—it’s a reeducation. Most Americans rarely get access to these wines. In this class\, you will. Join us and see why sommeliers\, collectors\, and wine scholars are obsessed with the Germanic wine world.

SUMMARY:A SHARP ENDLESS NEED Book Launch at H&H Books
DESCRIPTION:Pride Month wouldn’t be complete without celebrating Mac Crane’s sophomore novel\, A Sharp Endless Need. Register and learn more!\nH&H Books is thrilled to host Marisa (Mac) Crane to celebrate their sophomore novel\, A Sharp Endless Need. They’ll be in conversation with Philly-based poet Kayleb Rae Candrilli. An audience Q&A and book signing will follow their reading and discussion. Attendance is free\, but registration on Eventbrite is highly encouraged.\nAbout the Book: Star point guard Mack Morris’s senior year of high school begins with twin cataclysms: the death of her father and the arrival of transfer student Liv Cooper. On the court\, Mack and Liv discover an exhilarating\, game-winning chemistry; off the court\, they fall into an equally intoxicating more-than-friendship that is out of bounds for their small Pennsylvania town in 2004\, and especially\, for Liv’s conservative mother. As Mack’s desire and grief collide with drugs\, sex\, and the looming college signing deadline\, she is forced to reckon with the disconnects between her past and her future—and fight for the life she wants for herself\, whether or not Liv will be on the court beside her.\nWritten with the lush longing of Andre Aciman’s Call Me By Your Name and the obsessive attention of Jean Kyoung Frazier’s Pizza Girl\, and with all the romance and feeling of the celebrated 2000 movie “Love & Basketball\,” Crane’s sophomore novel is a voice-driven\, literary treatment of the big feelings of first love\, intimacy\, heartbreak\, grief\, and\, of course\, sports. \nAbout the Authors:\nMarisa Crane is a former college basketball player and the author of I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself\, a New York Times Editors’ Choice\, Indie Next pick\, and winner of a LAMBDA Literary Award. They have received fellowships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference\, American Short Fiction\, and Vermont Studio Center\, and their short work has appeared in Literary Hub\, The Sun\, TriQuarterly\, Prairie Schooner\, Joyland\, and elsewhere. Originally from Allentown\, PA\, they currently live in San Diego with their family. \nKayleb Rae Candrilli is the recipient of a Whiting Award\, a PEW fellowship\, and of a fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts. They are the author of Winter of Worship\, Water I Won’t Touch\, All the Gay Saints\, and What Runs Over. Candrilli lives in Philadelphia with their partner. \nCopies of A Sharp Endless Need (Dial Press) and Candrilli’s poetry collection Winter of Worship (Copper Canyon Press) are available in-store at H&H Books and on our ecommerce site.\nEmail events@theheadandthehand.com with any questions and follow us @theheadandthehand on Instagram.

SUMMARY:Basics of Drawing: Figure Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to “Figure It Out: Basics of Figure Drawing\,” your four-session workshop into the wonderful world of visual art! Whether you can barely draw a stick figure or you’re already doodling masterpieces\, this class is designed to empower you to capture the human form with flair and confidence. \nIn the first session\, we’ll break the ice with some basic anatomy and proportions—think of it as a crash course in seeing the human body like never before. We’ll explore simple shapes and lines to get the ball rolling. By the end\, you’ll be sketching figures that look like people. \nSessions 2 – 4 will combine learning techniques\, such as movement\, gesture\, shading\, and texture\, with a figure model. So grab your sketchbook and let’s get drawing—because every masterpiece starts with a single line! \n*Students must bring a Newsprint sketchbook (11×14). All other supplies will be provided
