SUMMARY:Old Academy Players presents Disenchanted!
DESCRIPTION:Disenchanted! By Dennis T. Giacino\nDirected by Annie Hnatko \nApril 25th\, 26th; May 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, 2025\nFriday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m.\, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. \nPoison apples and lost slippers are just the beginning. The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture\, so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know — these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth. Received an “Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and a “Best New Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Off-Broadway Alliance). \nContent Warning: Contains adult language and content.

SUMMARY:South African Luxury Wines -The Wine Tasting Class
DESCRIPTION:The first South African wines we tasted came shortly after the fall of apartheid. Even then\, the potential was obvious—ancient soils\, a Mediterranean climate\, high elevations\, and a wealth of old vines. A rare combination in any winegrowing region. \nBut it wasn’t until around 2010 that that potential truly began to take root. Today\, names like Swartland\, Walker Bay\, and Paarl should be on every wine lover’s radar. \nIn this class\, you’ll taste some of South Africa’s finest wines and explore what makes them stand out. We’ll cover the key regions\, grape varieties\, and essential facts that will bring you up to speed on one of the most exciting wine countries in the world.

SUMMARY:Cognac & Beyond: The Spirits Tasting Class
DESCRIPTION:What’s the greatest invention in human history? The pyramids? The Suez Canal? The space shuttle? The remote control? \nWe’d argue it’s Cognac. \nBorn during the Enlightenment\, Cognac is the distilled soul of wine—refined\, complex\, and undeniably French. While philosophers were debating liberty and reason\, winemakers in southwestern France were quietly creating liquid gold. \nLong revered as the pinnacle of fine spirits\, Cognac (and its lesser-known cousin\, Armagnac) has recently sparked a revival in the U.S. Over the past decade\, American imports have surged by 40%—fueled by a thirst for quality and a newfound appreciation for small\, independent producers. \nIn this class\, we’ll explore what makes Cognac so exceptional—from the grapes and terroir to the stills and cellars. You’ll taste a curated lineup that spans style and region\, including some rare finds from craft producers. \nWhether you’re a longtime fan or a curious newcomer\, this is your moment to experience Cognac at its best.

SUMMARY:Public Archaeology at Newlin Grist Mill
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under our feet! \nThe public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist\, Keith Doms\, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nExcavations this season are planned for the Trimble farm complex in the Historic Area. The Trimble family built their house on the property adjoining the Mill in 1739 and\, over time\, built a whole complex of structures to support the operations of their household and farm. By conducting archaeological studies in the area around the Trimble House\, the Newlin Grist Mill staff hopes to learn more about the people who lived and worked there in the 18th\, 19th\, and early 20th centuries. \nScheduled 2025 Public Archaeology Days:\nMarch 15\nApril 19\nMay 17\nJune 21\nJuly 19\nOctober 18 – International Archaeology Day \n10am-3pm. Free and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. If you would like to help out with the dig\, be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty and close-toed footwear. Bring work gloves if you have them; the site has a limited number of pairs to lend.
