SUMMARY:Tongue & Groove: Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2006\, Tongue & Groove performs spontaneous theater – from hilarious to heartbreaking – inspired by real life experiences. \nIn October’s Secrets show\, each audience member is given an index card\, a pen\, and a provocative prompt: “Share a secret you keep.” Encouraged to answer honestly\, the audience anonymously submits their responses\, which are randomly drawn by the actors and read aloud. The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by their audience-collaborators’ submissions\, exploring the experiences that connect us all.

SUMMARY:Westbrook Lecture—Beyond the Binaries: The New Science of Sex and Gender
DESCRIPTION:Recent executive orders in the U.S. and Supreme Court decisions in the United Kingdom have claimed a scientific consensus regarding the binary nature of sex and gender. But what does science actually show? \nKick-off your pride month celebrations with our 2025 Westbrook Lecture: Beyond the Binaries: The New Science of Sex and Gender on Thursday\, May 29th\, at 6PM. The event will be a panel style conversation led by anthropologist Mallika Sarma (University of Pennsylvania)\, with evolutionary anthropologist Agustín Fuentes (Princeton University) and biologist Nathan H. Lents (CUNY) about the nature\, origin\, and purpose of sex and gender diversity in humans and other animals. \nIn what will be a wide-ranging\, lively\, and surprising discussion\, these three prominent scientists will illuminate the past two decades of sex and gender research\, discussing the striking amount of diversity\, adaptability\, and creativity present in their approach to sexed bodies and gendered behaviors in both humans and other animals. A book signing and reception with the speakers will follow the talk. \nAdmission is free to everyone and donations are welcome to support our mission. Registration is strongly recommended to speed your entry but walk-ins are also welcome.
