The Core Wine Course merges the Foundation (L2) and Intermediate (L3) programs into an eight-week training that provides a comprehensive wine education. It prepares students for sommelier work\, winemaking\, or advanced wine appreciation. \nThrough lectures\, tastings\, labs\, and exams\, participants explore wine regions and tasting techniques. Topics include introductions to wine regions\, sensory evaluation\, varietal identification\, and the basics of winemaking. The curriculum features wines from France\, North America\, Australia\, Italy\, Spain\, and South America. \nUpon completion\, students earn a nationally recognized Level III certification and sommelier pin from the National Wine School (NWS). This credential is highly regarded in the wine and hospitality industries and is on par with those from the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. \nNo prerequisites are required. DESCRIPTION:This special all day symposium coincides with the exhibition Crescendo: How Art Makes Movements (1981-1999)\, and will feature a diverse array of programming\, such as artist presentations\, panel discussions\, performances\, and community-driven projects that highlight the shared experiences and struggles of Black and Asian communities. \nAsian Arts Initiative was founded in the wake of the LA Uprisings to address afro-asian solidarity. The Crescendo Symposium will explore the evolution of Afro-Asian solidarity from historical movements like the Black Panther Party to contemporary grassroots efforts. All ages and genders are welcome to this story time and encouraged to participate\, though the intended audience is 4-to-6-year-olds. \nAthena\, our friend from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania\, will joins Ms. AJ and read Maybe: A Story about the Endless Potential in All of Us. She’ll lead little ones in a song and craft—all while gathered around a pretend campfire! \nDuring story time\, we will be accepting pre-loved toys from attendees to give to our pals at Unless Kids\, who kindly provided our instruments. \nAdrienne Barnett (aka Ms. AJ) is a child educator and musical theatre advocate who began her teaching career in 2007. The workshop will focus on liberation and civil rights histories through several centuries in the Philadelphia metro region.\nHistorian and artist Nell Irvin Painter will present “Arrived\, New Names\,” as the keynote address Friday evening. Sharing insights about her commissioned artwork focused on William Still’s Journal C of the Underground Railroad\, she will set the tone for exploring how creative projects can share complicated and compelling histories. In her talk\, she will dive into her research into 19th-century anti-slavery movements and the interwoven literary\, political\, and artistic work of the Black communities.\nThe workshop on Saturday will invite participants to share strategies on how archival collections can be used to reclaim and restore community history\, with a focus on our collective knowledge of Black history in Philadelphia. This event convenes teachers\, students\, docents\, volunteers\, artists\, museum professionals\, family historians\, and other public history practitioners to learn from and share with one another.
