SUMMARY:Discover Your Wine Style: The Wine Tasting Class
DESCRIPTION:This wine class covers four main principles to help participants find their personal wine preferences. It draws on ten years of research\, including work by the Monell Chemical Senses Center\, and uses structured tastings to show how to pick wines that match individual tastes. Instead of requiring deep knowledge of grapes\, regions\, or flavors\, it uses tools like the Wine Style Chart to simplify decisions. Participants leave with a straightforward way to make informed wine choices and reduce the chance of buying a disappointing bottle.

SUMMARY:Dan Savage's 2025 HUMP! Film Fest: Part One
DESCRIPTION:TWO SCREENINGS:\n6:30pm & 9pm (both screenings feature the same lineup of films) \nSince 2005\, HUMP! has been delighting audiences with jaw-dropping\, curated selections of adult short films (each just 5 min. or less) submitted to the festival every year by independent creators from around the globe. But these aren’t your stereotypical adult films! They’re steamy\, sure. Sumptuous\, obviously. Sultry\, of course. But also hilariously funny\, stunningly beautiful\, completely unexpected\, and deeply humanizing. \nWhether it’s a gorgeous romp in a hand dug kaolin clay pit\, an off-the-wall musical comedy starring a hungry sock\, a slasher film tropefest\, a documentary-style look at adult cinema work\, or the exploration of a kink you’ve never even heard of\, Part One of the 2025 lineup features 23 all-new films that push boundaries\, spotlight inclusion and representation for all\, encourage conversation\, and redefine the adult genre. \nJoin a movement that’s as entertaining as it is revolutionary\, because HUMP! isn’t just a “dirty” film fest. It’s a powerful act of resistance – human connection that encourages audiences to embrace themselves\, and each other\, exactly as they are. Get your tickets now!

SUMMARY:Songs & Stories: Craig Bickhardt and Jesse Terry in Concert
DESCRIPTION:(Berwyn\, PA) On Saturday\, April 12th\, at 7 p.m.\, Trinity’s Spotlight Concert Series presents an unforgettable evening of beautiful music as critically acclaimed singer-songwriters Craig Bickhardt and Jesse Terry unite to swap songs and stories. Marvel at their exceptional musicianship and be entertained by their captivating—and often hilarious—anecdotes about their songs and careers. This will also be your opportunity to hear about their latest CDs and purchase copies during intermission. Jesse Terry is celebrating his highly praised seventh album\, Arcadia. Craig Bickhardt is celebrating the recent release of Soliloquy: Sixteen Solo Songs and his newly released album\, Man of Sorrows\, a soulfully beautiful Easter song cycle co-written with Thom Schuyler that features an all-star cast. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to experience these talented artists up close and personal. Secure your Free RSVP tickets now at https://tickets.trinityberwyn.com and be part of a magical evening that will stay with you long after the final note. All are welcome to join us!. \nCraig Bickhardt is a critically acclaimed folk/Americana performing songwriter with major writing credits\, a poet’s voice\, a virtuoso guitar style\, and a veteran’s experience. His songs have found their way onto platinum and Grammy-winning recordings by legends such as Johnny Cash\, Martina McBride\, Willie Nelson\, Ray Charles\, B.B. King\, Jonathan Edwards\, David Wilcox\, Pam Tillis\, Kathy Mattea\, and Alison Krauss. Craig’s voice and songs can be heard in the Academy Award-winning film Tender Mercies\, starring Robert Duvall\, as well as the films Switchback and At Close Range. Craig and Thom Schuyler co-wrote and produced the classic Christmas album\, Precious Child: The Story of Christmas. Narrated by Guy Clark\, it features guest performances by Vince Gill\, Alison Krauss\, Janis Ian\, Michael Johnson\, Dan Seals\, Ashley Cleveland\, and a host of others. The newly released Man of Sorrows album features guest performances by Sam Robbins\, Halley Neal\, Don Henry\, Darrell Scott\, Mike Reid\, John Cowan\, JD Malone\, Dallas Malone\, Aislinn Landolt\, Jack Sundrud\, Andrea Zonn\, Jesse Terry\, and Tony Arata. \nJesse Terry is an internationally touring\, award-winning singer-songwriter whose intimacy with audiences\, sincerity\, and approachability has solidified him as a favorite at festivals and live venues nationwide. Rooted in rhythmic rock & roll and sharp songwriting\, Arcadia marks a turning point in Jesse Terry’s career. It’s his seventh original album from a man who’s spent much of the past decade on the move\, playing 150 shows annually\, including bucket-list events such as Bonnaroo and AmericanaFest. Arcadia captures both sides of that musical personality\, finding room for amplified anthems one moment and intimate moments the next\, showcasing just how wide Terry’s reach can be. A grand-prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, Terry established himself as a top-shelf songwriter and storyteller even before he built his audience as a solo artist. Arcadia captures him at his articulate\, energetic peak\, stocked with songs that turn personal details from Terry’s own life—including the joys and challenges of fatherhood\, as well as nostalgic reflections upon his own childhood—into universal rallying cries for anyone looking to turn the challenges of the past into fuel for a better\, brighter present. \nThe doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. The concert is Free\, but a free-will donation of $25 per person is suggested. \nTrinity Presbyterian Church is located on Berwyn Avenue\, one block south of Route 30 (Lancaster Pike) in Berwyn\, PA. Parking is free. The GPS address for the main church parking lot is 51 Waterloo Ave\, Berwyn\, PA 19312. The church is also one block from the Berwyn train station (Septa’s Paoli-Thorndale line).

SUMMARY:Jeremy Gordon Presents SEE FRIENDSHIP with Sadie Dupuis
DESCRIPTION:Join us at H&H Books on Tuesday 4/15 at 7 PM as we welcome author & editor Jeremy Gordon and musician & poet Sadie Dupuis to discuss Jeremy’s debut novel\, SEE FRIENDSHIP. \nSEE FRIENDSHIP centers on a culture critic named Jacob who becomes obsessed with the idea of producing a podcast in an effort to dodge the layoffs plaguing the digital media industrial complex. He settles on investigating the tragic & mysterious death of his high school classmate\, Seth. What begins as a work project becomes an obsession set at the foggy intersection of high school memory\, the inevitability of grief\, and existential inquiry. \nWe’ll have copies of the novel for sale at H&H Books on the evening of the event\, which Jeremy will sign after our discussion. (We’ll have copies of Sadie’s poetry collection Cry Perfume for sale\, too.) Questions? Email events@theheadandthehand.com.

SUMMARY:Public Archaeology at Newlin Grist Mill
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dig into history with archaeological excavations at Newlin Grist Mill and learn more about the site through the evidence under our feet! \nThe public is invited to participate (or just watch) as Newlin Grist Mill’s professional archaeologist\, Keith Doms\, and a dedicated corps of archaeology volunteers seek to gain a deeper understanding of the site’s history through careful excavation using scientific techniques and thorough documentation. Depending on the day\, visitors might be invited to help screen excavated soil to look for small artifacts or assist with cleaning artifacts that have already been excavated. \nExcavations this season are planned for the Trimble farm complex in the Historic Area. The Trimble family built their house on the property adjoining the Mill in 1739 and\, over time\, built a whole complex of structures to support the operations of their household and farm. By conducting archaeological studies in the area around the Trimble House\, the Newlin Grist Mill staff hopes to learn more about the people who lived and worked there in the 18th\, 19th\, and early 20th centuries. \nScheduled 2025 Public Archaeology Days:\nMarch 15\nApril 19\nMay 17\nJune 21\nJuly 19\nOctober 18 – International Archaeology Day \n10am-3pm. Free and open to all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). No reservations are required. If you would like to help out with the dig\, be sure to wear clothes that can get dirty and close-toed footwear. Bring work gloves if you have them; the site has a limited number of pairs to lend.

SUMMARY:Cannonball Tavern at Fort Mifflin
DESCRIPTION:While few Officers’ Clubs survived the Cold War\, we are going to bring back the tradition at Fort Mifflin this year. Military Officers’ clubs date back to the Middle Ages and were establishments where officers from the aristocratic landowners congregated. These were meant to be distinct from the public houses where peasants met to drink and entertain themselves. Officers’ clubs were a privilege of office and entry was restricted to those officers who had earned their commissions (later meaning graduates of officer training programs. Originally (and in some cases even today)\, Officers’ Clubs reinforced the social distance between enlisted soldiers and their officers. By the time Fort Mifflin was recommissioned in 1794\, maintaining strict separation between officers and enlisted personnel was difficult. The garrison was small and there are few recreational activities for any soldiers\, so the garrison OC was more accepting of non-commissioned officers (privates are still out). \nThe bar is an essential element of most officers’ clubs. Some clubs served meals as an alternative to the rigid schedule and customs of the mess\, and a few larger clubs even hired entertainers like musicians. The heyday for military officers’ clubs was during World War II but many bases (especially in the Air Force) continued to host officers’ clubs through the Cold War. These bases often also included separate enlisted clubs. The protected environment of an officers’ club offered refuge from public disapproval during times when the public disapproved of the military (e.g. during the Vietnam War). \nJoin us on Saturday\, April 19th as we transform two of the casemates at Fort Mifflin into an 18th Century Officers Club. Patrons are invited to an evening of storytelling and merriment during which they can enjoy an 18th Century tavern experience complete with period beer\, cocktails\, competitive toasts\, games and various entertainments\, and maybe even a rousting political debate. \nThe Regimental Brewmeister will provide period correct\, field brewed beers\, ciders\, and meads. The Admiral of the Blue Apron\, then takes these with the addition of locally produced spirits to fashion 18th Century tavern cocktails\, punch\, and other libations. \nBeyond good ale\, cocktails\, and punch\, we provide the following entertainments you are likely to encounter were you to visit a tavern in 1770: \nCompetitive Toasting: Toasts would solidify the bonds of groups. Toasts add a competitive element of drinking. To give a proper toast requires courage\, it’s sort of a mini performance\, one that requires facing the chance of achieving great success or stumbling over what you say. Toasting elicits laughter\, dispenses well wishes\, and venerates people\, events\, and ideas (like liberty).\nParlor Games: Just like today\, people of the 18th Century enjoyed parlor and tavern games\, often gambling. There are two primary types of parlor games: card games\, and dice games but certainly some establishments\, especially in London\, also had draughts\, backgammon\, chess\, darts and billiards. The aim of most tavern games is not to create a competition but rather an excuse to sit together and discuss the day’s news.\nSharing of news and current events: Did you know Fort Mifflin has a newspaper? Taverns shared newspapers because the roads were poor and travel in the 18th Century was difficult and slow but when travelers came\, they shared the news. Some even brought their newspapers\, pamphlets\, and even books which when they had finished reading which they frequently left or loaned at the tavern.\nGlees and Tavern Songs: Glees and songs made for and about drinking are\, of course\, nothing new. Americans used drinking songs to band together in ale and song. In the ultimate homage to a night of drinking\, Francis Scott Key borrowed the tune of a bawdy British drinking song (“To Anacreon in Heaven”) about overindulgence and questionable relationship choices when he wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner.”\nTicket can be purchased at https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/fortmifflinonthedelaware/cannonball-tavern-801189955. This is a fundraiser for Fort Mifflin so come and enjoy the comradery of your fellow soldiers at the fort. We will be in the casemates this year so you may even get to meet some of our permanent garrison.
