DESCRIPTION:Musical Improv Workshop Series (for ages 18-180!) \nLearn to love the spontaneous\, the unplanned\, and the surprising as we improvise entire musicals from scratch! \nThrough improv exercises and songful games\, we’ll create songs and scenes on the fly\, learn common song structures\, and practice the art of spontaneity within a supportive community. In addition to being extremely fun\, musical improv offers practice in teamwork\, flexibility within structure\, mutual support\, and creative problem-solving. \nHow are conflicts created and resolved in song? What makes a catchy chorus? How can you use a melody to reflect emotion? How do actors decide when to burst into song? After playing with these concepts\, we’ll create our very own musical\, which will be unforgettable and immediately forgotten. \nFacilitated by Julie Lipson and Miles Crabtree\, two music therapists/performers\, this class will focus on self-expression and authenticity– not perfect performances. DESCRIPTION:Join Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) for Everything But the Kitchen Sink Mosaic Workshop\, a two-hour workshop led by the PMG education team exploring techniques used by PMG creator Isaiah Zagar. Known for his unique and\, some say\, liberating method for creating mosaics\, participants will examine Zagar murals\, prepare and create materials\, and make their own mosaic.\nIn this workshop\, guests learn how to cut glass\, break tile\, mix grout\, and lay out a small 9″ x 9″ mosaic to take home. The program empowers participants with mosaic-making skills and inspiration for future endeavors. Please be aware that the working space can only be accessed by stairs. This workshop is open to participants ages 12+\, but all participants under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult participant.

A rotating youth ensemble will serve as the house band\, kicking off the afternoon with a featured set including hand-selected guest artists before opening up the jam.\nProduced in collaboration between World Cafe Live and The School District of Philadelphia’s MIC’d Up initiative\, Up Next! aims to engage students in music industry careers both on and off the stage. Students will work alongside the WCL team to curate\, promote\, facilitate\, and document each session\, with opportunities in booking\, marketing\, videography\, photography\, artist relations\, hosting\, audio engineering\, backline management\, and other elements of live event production. A team of professional musicians and educators will also be on-site to facilitate performances. This program is supported by Save The Music Foundation.

With some gentle structure to help spark conversation (and Valentines to make it that much easier to give someone your number)\, we’ll pull out all the stops to make sparks fly. Come for the art\, drinks and conversation\, stay because WHOA you fell in love. \nThis Event is Sliding Scale. $10 – $25 \nAccessibility: DVAA is a historic row home in the Bella Vista neighborhood. We are not yet wheelchair accessible; Da Vinci is a three floor gallery with narrow staircases. (We are working towards becoming ADA accessible by 2027!) It is 5 steps up to the first floor level\, and 14 steps from the first to second floor\, where the gender-neutral bathroom is located. Da Vinci has masks and COVID tests available at our events. We can reserve seats for low-vision and Deaf and HoH community members as needed. DVAA exhibitions are free to visit and all of our programs are free or suggested donation.
