SUMMARY:Musical Improv Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Musical Improv Workshop Series (for ages 18-180!) \nLearn to love the spontaneous\, the unplanned\, and the surprising as we improvise entire musicals from scratch! \nThrough improv exercises and songful games\, we’ll create songs and scenes on the fly\, learn common song structures\, and practice the art of spontaneity within a supportive community. In addition to being extremely fun\, musical improv offers practice in teamwork\, flexibility within structure\, mutual support\, and creative problem-solving. \nHow are conflicts created and resolved in song? What makes a catchy chorus? How can you use a melody to reflect emotion? How do actors decide when to burst into song? After playing with these concepts\, we’ll create our very own musical\, which will be unforgettable and immediately forgotten. \nFacilitated by Julie Lipson and Miles Crabtree\, two music therapists/performers\, this class will focus on self-expression and authenticity– not perfect performances. After the 6-week class\, students are invited to participate in an optional class show performed for the public. \nNo previous training in improv or music is required–just a willingness to participate! For ages 18+ \nClass runs twice this winter: \nWEST PHILLY\nMondays\, Jan 6 – Feb 10\n6-7:30PM at The Arts League \nWALLINGFORD\, PA\nWednesdays Jan 22 – Feb 26\n6:30-8PM at Community Arts Center \nMore info at www.AntsonaLogMusic.com/improv

SUMMARY:The Great Philadelphia Comedy Magic Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Something Magical this Way Comes! October is the month of magic in fact the last week of the month is National Magic Week and October 31 is National Magic Day. National Magic Day came about after the death of Harry Houdini who died on that day in 1926. If you are in the mood for magic\, try a unique Philly experience called\, “The Great Philadelphia Comedy Magic Walking Tour”. It is a blend of a walking history tour and a walking magic show\, complete with a seance trick in an alley called “Little Boys Court”\, where the spirits of the dead are contacted. Each historic location inspires a mind-bending magic trick. You will also meet “Mind-a-lugosi”\, a clairvoyant from 200 years ago.

SUMMARY:Tongue & Groove: Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2006\, Tongue & Groove performs spontaneous theater – from hilarious to heartbreaking – inspired by real life experiences. \nIn October’s Secrets show\, each audience member is given an index card\, a pen\, and a provocative prompt: “Share a secret you keep.” Encouraged to answer honestly\, the audience anonymously submits their responses\, which are randomly drawn by the actors and read aloud. The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by their audience-collaborators’ submissions\, exploring the experiences that connect us all.

SUMMARY:Historical Society of Pennsylvania presents Researching Building Ghosts: A Talk and Booksigning
DESCRIPTION:Join author Molly Lester and photographer Michael Bixler to discuss their new book\, Building Ghosts: Past Lives and Lost Places in a Changing City (Temple University Press\, November 2024)\, and the ghosts that reveal new truths and provocations about the changing city. For this engaging event\, Lester and Bixler explain and explore “Building ghosts\,” the idiosyncratic remnants or imprints of demolished buildings\, left behind on the sides of neighboring structures. Mostly seen in older Northeastern cities with rowhomes or party-wall adjacencies\, they can reveal remarkable things\, such as an old staircase going up the side of a building or plaster traces left by a set of shelves in an attic gable. As history in our changing cities is erased and remade\, these ghosts can be ephemeral or enduring. They can be quickly revealed and replaced in a neighborhood seeing rapid change or unveiled and never re-covered in a neighborhood that has not seen new construction in substantial time. The Historical Society of Pennsylvania proudly offers this evening of discovery onsite and virtually with the book available for purchase onsite.
