This revelation isn’t new. Back in 2009\, Keith Wallace\, who founded the Wine School of Philadelphia\, peeled back the curtain on these practices in a series of articles for the Daily Beast. His exposé didn’t go unnoticed—many of his peers\, including Adam Lee of Siduri\, responded with more than a little ire. \nThe debate over natural\, organic\, and biodynamic wines has been brewing since our school first opened its doors in 2001. We’ve embraced this conversation wholeheartedly\, and the essence of natural wines has seeped into every class we’ve taught over the past two decades. The composition has been described as: “exquisite\, with brilliant choral writing\, rich sonorities\, full of joy\, honor\, and bewilderment”. \nThis concert will also feature Magnificat by English composer Jonathan Willcocks. Rhythmically exciting\, this work was commissioned by the Hickory Choral Society of North Carolina and was first performed in June of 1997. Written for choir\, organ\, percussion and brass\, it sets the Magnificat in five sections of great contrast and includes two 15th century English texts. \nThe program will also include Ola Gjeilo’s “The Rose” and other favorites such as Bring a Torch\, Erev shel shoshanim\, and Go Tell it on the Mountain\, with our own\, Judith Large (pianist).

DESCRIPTION:This session is devoted to the great grape varieties that make wine a joy to drink and understand. We’ll explore the rich tapestry of flavors they offer and unravel the mysteries of wine labels\, all while savoring some truly delightful wines. By the end of our time together\, you’ll have the confidence to choose and order wine with ease\, ensuring you always get the bottle you desire\, no matter the price. \nThis class pays homage to Andrea Immer Robinson\, a Master Sommelier and bestselling author. Her book\, *Great Wine Made Simple* (Clarkson Potter)\, was published in 2000\, just months before our own Wine School of Philadelphia came into being. It quickly became required reading for our students\, and we still regard it as one of the finest introductions to wine for newcomers. \nAndrea has been a steadfast friend to our school. In 2004\, she honored us by serving as the keynote speaker at a lecture series hosted by the Wine School. The event took place at the Food Network’s Great Big Food Show in Philadelphia\, where she began her talk to a packed audience by declaring\, “You are lucky to have the Wine School of Philadelphia\,” and shared some generous words about our director\, Keith Wallace. \nThis class is a tribute to *Great Wine Made Simple* and our cherished friend\, Andrea. Like her book\, it is designed to give wine students a straightforward approach to decoding the labels of the world’s finest wines. You can expect to journey through the classic wine regions of France\, Italy\, Spain\, and beyond\, gaining insight and appreciation for the wines they produce.
