SUMMARY:EARTH & SKY by Roberta Tucci - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Chimaera Gallery presents EARTH&SKY\, a solo exhibition by Roberta Tucci\, inviting viewers into a vibrant world where the natural and celestial collide in a consonance of color and form. Known for her abstract interpretations of the world around her\, Tucci’s acrylic paintings draw inspiration from her deep\, meditative connection to the outdoors. This collection captures the dualities of nature — the solidity of the earth and the expansiveness of the sky — through a body of work that spans large and small canvases\, along with intricately painted constructions on shaped wood panels. \nIn EARTH&SKY\, earthly subjects such as marigold flowers and the flowing rhythms of river water come to life in bold\, energetic compositions. These grounded scenes are juxtaposed with Tucci’s skyward explorations\, where whimsical flight patterns of birds and the gradual dance of an eclipse infuse the works with a sense of movement and mysticism. Each painting offers an interplay between groundedness and the ethereal\, inviting viewers to experience a balance between the tangible and the transcendent. \nGallery Hours: Sat. 12-4 p.m.\, or by appointment \n3502 Scotts Lane #2113 \nPhiladelphia\, PA 19129 \nchimaeragallery.com \nhello@chimaeragallery.com

SUMMARY:AMSTERDAM
DESCRIPTION:Amsterdam\, by Maya Arad Yasur\, is a timely play about the bills that always come due. Four performers acting as storytellers introduce us to an ex-pat Israeli musician whose dreams of assimilation into the European arts world are upended by the mysterious delivery of an unpaid gas bill – from 1944. The implications of the bill send her spiraling through issues of identity and alienness\, legacy and peoplehood. Amsterdam is a thrilling and imaginatively-told mystery centered around the possible\, devastating origins of the bill.

SUMMARY:East Asian Calligraphy Workshop with Kazuaki Tanahashi
DESCRIPTION:Sensei Kazuaki Tanahashi Visits Philadelphia and Soji Zen Center \nHeart of the Brush Workshop\, Dharma Talk and Book Signing \nFriday\, November 15 | Heart of the Brush Demonstration (7:30-9 pm) \nSaturday\, November 16th | Workshop on East Asian Calligraphy (10 am-6 pm\, with lunch break 12-2) \nSunday\, November 17 | Meditation with Dharma Talk by Kaz Tanahashi (10 am-12 noon) \nAll three programs in Doyle Hall on the City Avenue campus of St. Joseph’s University\, Philadelphia\, PA \nWe invite you to an evening demonstration of East Asian calligraphy\, a day-long calligraphy workshop\, and a morning of meditation and a talk with author\, scholar and peace worker Kaz Tanahashi. Please consider attending all three programs\, or register individually for one or two of the components. The Saturday day-long calligraphy workshop is $85 and limited in size. Registration for the Saturday program will be closed when capacity is reached. Please use the following link to register: https://sojizencenter.com/project/weekend-with-kazuaki-tanahashi/ \nThe Saturday workshop will be a chance to engage directly with brush practice. We will begin by exploring the 1700-year-old wisdom of East Asian calligraphy as we look at ancient Chinese masterpieces. Then we will engage the heart of the learning and creative process by faithfully copying selected ideographs in different styles. \nWhile practicing basic aesthetics and techniques of brushwork\, we will notice our own imperfections and inner criticisms that usually keep us from fully enjoying each moment. Step by step\, we will find ways to increase the degree of our enjoyment and serene excitement\, which can be applied to mindful healing in everyday life. We will also experiment with artistic interpretation and expressionistic improvisation. No previous experience is needed. Brushes\, ink\, color\, and paper will be provided. \nParticipants will receive directions for parking and suggestions for nearby lunch options after registering. \nKazuaki Tanahashi\, born and trained in Japan\, and active in the United States\, is an artist\, writer\, and peace worker. He is an esteemed author and translator of important texts and brings a treasured voice and scholarship to the writings of Eihei Dogen. As a painter and calligrapher\, and the author of Heart of the Brush: Splendor of East Asian Calligraphy\, Kaz has had solo exhibitions of his brushwork\, performed\, and taught worldwide.
