SUMMARY:Exotic Wines: The Wine Tasting Class
DESCRIPTION:**The Quest for Rare and Remarkable Wines** \nThe pursuit of the exotic is as old as the hills\, but when it comes to wine\, the quest takes on a particular charm. As we uncork these bottles\, a simple question lingers: Are these wines deliciously exotic\, or exotically delicious? By the end of this class\, you might find yourself pondering why the world at large has overlooked these hidden gems\, and you’ll be grateful that we have not. \nIn this gathering\, obscurity and rarity are the themes of the day. We’ve traversed continents—both in spirit and in person—to unearth wines that are as uncommon as they are intriguing. Here\, you’ll be introduced to wines from the most unexpected corners of the globe\, wines whose names you may not recognize but whose flavors will leave a lasting impression. Yet\, their exotic origins are only part of the story. These wines must stand on their own merit—they must be undeniably good. \nIf you are one to relish in discovering something new\, something extraordinary\, this class is your calling. But if you find contentment in the familiar embrace of a buttery Chardonnay\, you might find yourself a bit out of place. Some of these wines hail from far-flung regions\, others from grapes that defy the norm\, and some marry both in a way that is nothing short of magical. No matter how seasoned you are in the world of wine\, this experience is bound to expand your understanding of just how vast and varied that world truly is. \nThis class also offers a rare glimpse into the mind of a cellar master and sommelier. You’ll be privy to wines and regions long before they become the next big thing. Take\, for example\, the very first “Exotica” class at the Wine School back in 2002. Among the wines featured was a then little-known Malbec from Argentina\, a wine that has since found its place on the world stage. How the times have changed\, and how fortunate we are to have been ahead of the curve.

SUMMARY:The Circus of Second Chances
DESCRIPTION:Acrobatic Conundrum presents “The Circus of Second Chances\,” featuring rope acrobatics\, Cyr wheel\, handbalancing\, live baking\, and clown. \nOn a relentless quest for wonder\, three veteran acrobats let their imaginations run wild to fulfill secret longings. Fluent in\nthe language of circus\, Acrobatic Conundrum’s principal performers melt the fourth wall to reveal their flaws and journeys\nto redemption. The audience plays a vital part in The Circus of Second Chances\, in which ropes are dancescapes\, trapezes are\nwindows to the soul\, and spinning hoops are portals to infinite possibility. In our homes we are out at sea\, on our living\nroom couch we find ourselves on an epic odyssey; so much rests upon the fate of a dozen lemons. Leveraging their long\nrunning friendships with each other\, Emma Curtiss\, Melissa Knowles\, and Terry Crane put all their talents and quirky\ncraftiness into this dada circus romp. They climb\, cavort\, invert\, revert\, and subvert in this capricious acrobatic piece as they\nask\, “What does your heart wish for?”

SUMMARY:Curtis Opera Theatre: The Comet / Poppea
DESCRIPTION:Curtis Opera Theatre launches the East Coast premiere of The Comet / Poppea\, the MacArthur Award-winning composer George Lewis’ highly anticipated operatic setting of W.E.B. Du Bois’ proto-Afrofuturist science fiction short story\, The Comet (1920)\, juxtaposed with Claudio Monteverdi’s hot-blooded political thriller\, L’incoronazione di Poppea (1643). Presented on a turntable divided in two halves\, these worlds unfold simultaneously\, with the stage’s rotation creating a visual and sonic spiral for audiences—inviting associations\, dissociations\, collisions\, and confluences. Directed and conceived by fellow MacArthur-winner Yuval Sharon\, this innovative co-production features a stellar cast of Curtis singers led by conductor Marc Lowenstein. \nThe Comet\nGEORGE LEWIS\, music\nDOUGLAS KEARNEY\, libretto\nAdapted from the W.E.B. Du Bois short story The Comet \nL’incoronazione di Poppea\nCLAUDIO MONTEVERDI\, music\nFRANCESCO BUSENELLO\, libretto \nThe Comet will be performed in English with English supertitles.\nL’incoronazione di Poppea will be performed in Italian with English supertitles.

SUMMARY:The Core Sommelier Course in Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:### Sommelier Core Wine Course \nThe Core Wine Course is an all-encompassing journey into the world of wine\, bringing together the lessons of our Foundation and Intermediate programs into a single\, cohesive semester. For those who wish to immerse themselves fully in wine education\, this course offers a thorough understanding at a fraction of the cost of enrolling in the two programs separately. \n#### Course Highlights \nIn the Foundation section\, students will refine their skills to become adept wine tasters\, honing the techniques that distinguish the expert from the amateur. They will also learn to identify major wine varietals in blind tastings\, a skill that marks a true professional in the field. \nThe Intermediate portion of the course leads students deeper into the complexities of wine\, exploring various styles\, climates\, and varietals from the world’s key wine-producing regions. It is a study for those on the path to becoming sommeliers\, future winemakers\, or simply passionate enthusiasts looking to elevate their knowledge. \nAt the end of the semester\, students will earn their sommelier pin from the National Wine School—a credential that signifies a significant achievement in the world of wine. \n### Schedule of Core Classes \n– **Week One**\n– *Section #1:* Introduction to Wine Regions\n– *Section #2:* Intro to Sensory Wine Tasting\n– **Week Two**\n– *Section #1:* France\n– *Section #2:* White Varietal Components\n– **Week Three**\n– *Section #1:* North American Wines\n– *Section #2:* Red Varietal Components\n– **Week Four**\n– *Section #1:* Australia\n– *Section #2:* Old World vs New World\n– **Week Five**\n– *Section #1:* Italy\n– *Section #2:* Varietal Fingerprint Lab\n– **Week Six**\n– *Section #1:* Spain & Portugal\n– *Section #2:* Winemaking 101\n– **Week Seven**\n– *Section #1:* South America\n– *Section #2:* Blind Tasting Class\n– **Week Eight**\n– *Section #1:* Regional In-Class Exam\n– *Section #2:* Tasting In-Class Exam \n**Location:** Philadelphia\n**Prerequisites:** None \n### Certifications and Recognition \nThis Core Wine Course culminates in a Level III certification\, a nationally recognized credential conferred by the National Wine School (NWS). SUMMARY:Materialize
DESCRIPTION:About the Exhibition: Da Vinci Art Alliance is proud to partner with Craft Movie Club to present “Materialize\,” an exhibition that showcases sixteen artists\, all working in their chosen material of ceramics\, wood\, fiber\, metal and glass to respond to James Whale’s 1933 classic\, “The Invisible Man.” \nIn the film\, scientist Jack Griffin uses an extraction from an obscure flower—originally used to bleach textiles—to render himself invisible. How\, “Materialize” asks\, do the artists on display mirror the scientist at the heart of the film? How do they manipulate the natural world to transform their raw materials into powerful\, symbolic objects? And do they\, in performing their craft\, ever transform themselves? \nMaterialize will be on view in Gallery 1 at Da Vinci Art Alliance starting October 31 until November 17. The opening reception will take place on Saturday\, November 2\, from 4-7 pm.

SUMMARY:Tongue & Groove: Secrets
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2006\, Tongue & Groove performs spontaneous theater – from hilarious to heartbreaking – inspired by real life experiences. \nIn October’s Secrets show\, each audience member is given an index card\, a pen\, and a provocative prompt: “Share a secret you keep.” Encouraged to answer honestly\, the audience anonymously submits their responses\, which are randomly drawn by the actors and read aloud. The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by their audience-collaborators’ submissions\, exploring the experiences that connect us all.
