DESCRIPTION:Lombardi\, a play written by Academy Award winner Eric Simonson\, (2005 Documentary short) brings to life legendary football coach Vince Lombardi during a week in the 1965 NFL season when he coached the Green Bay Packers. The play\, based on the book When Pride Still Mattered by David Maraniss\, premiered in 2010 at Circle on the Square in New York\, starring Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) in the title role. Vince Lombardi led the Packers to three straight and five total NFL championships as well as victories in the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967. \nLombardi\, born in Brooklyn in 1913\, the son of Italian immigrants\, rose to become a national symbol of determination to succeed and was widely admired for his views on hard work and winning. DESCRIPTION:Hacia la luz is a dance journey into the many worlds I have inhabited. This work is the culmination of an intensive exploration into my Andean ancestry through extensive travels and studies with gifted Shamans coupled with my lifelong passion and commitment to my beloved flamenco. \nAfter I discovered several years ago that I was of 51% Andean indigenous descent\, I immersed myself in the spiritual teachings of Andean Shamanic medicine and rituals. While on this path\, I sought out healing modalities that allowed me to connect with the light and dark shadows that I have inherited. My spiritual interests and studies of Andean cosmology have led me to question the paradigms that governed my prevailing notions of reality\, identity\, creativity\, activism\, spirituality\, race\, gender\, class\, and sexuality. Through the lens of flamenco and my own dance modalities\, I hope that Hacia la luz will invite the audience to go on a journey of connection and healing\, and to look deeply at the dark shadows we have all inherited. Join me as we bear witness to what haunts us\, and we ask ourselves\, “How can we repair el daño (the damage)?”

Marquis de Lafayette’s bicentennial in Philadelphia this month and the series of events being celebrated in Philadelphia and across the country. \nGen. Lafayette is well known as an American Revolutionary War hero\, but a less known fact is he was also a Freemason. The Masonic Temple has paired with the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphia and The American Friends of Lafayette to offer French speaking guided tours of the Temple – including an exhibition showcasing written correspondence by Lafayette and other artifacts from the museum collection – on Sept. 19 and 27\, from 6 – 7 p.m. \nIn addition\, The American Friends of Lafayette will host an elegant Lafayette soiree at the Masonic Temple on Saturday\, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. This event\, which is open to the public\, will feature 19th century elegance\, including musicians playing period pieces and 19th century dancing.

Marriage\, family and an international career all come careening towards a spectacular yet tragic ending as he dies backstage at Radio City Music Hall in New York on the eve of World War II. Visit our free arts & crafts table to create mosaic tiles with our Lily P.A.D.S. youth program educators. Bring a blanket or some chairs and enjoy the grounds and mansion\, which will be open for free self-guided tours. \nBat Tumbagas\, an art installation by Sarahbella Rocha will also be on display in front of the Water Tower. This art piece celebrates the significance of bats in ecosystems worldwide and the artist’s Pijao ancestral background. This artist utilized their background in tailoring to celebrate their ancestor’s tumbagas\, Ancient pre-Columbian Mesoamerican metal hammering\, with gold fabrics that sway in the wind\, shine in the sun\, glow in the moonlight\, and sparkle in the rain at Glen Foerd. The market will take place every Sunday 12pm-5pm rain or shine\, is FREE to attend\, family & dog friendly\, and have alcoholic beverages thanks to next door neighbors Martha Bar. We’ll have 35 different vintage vendors each week and a different featured food truck on site\, starting with Bao & Bun Studio September 1st! The duo also competed in Memphis at the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge in January of 2024. The band\, John Brauchler and Paul Gallucci\, began as an acoustic duo when they were both still in high school\, and have crafted their sound and songwriting prowess by blending elements of blues\, R & B and soul. Their music continues to evolve and in June of 2017\, they released “Gonna Take Sweet Time\,” an album of all-original tunes on their own label Toneblanket Records.
