DESCRIPTION:Continuum highlights the work of two Philadelphia area female artists\, painter Jan Morgen and fiber artist Pamela E. Becker. This exhibition is included in (re)FOCUS 2024\, a Philadelphia citywide program that celebrates women artists. The festival celebrates the 50th anniversary of Philadelphia Focuses on Women in the Visual Arts/1974; refocus2024.org \nGravers Lane Gallery brings Pamela and Jan in dialogue with each other about their process focused artistic practices\, spanning decades. Both artists explore materials with a keen awareness of detail; Morgen layering pigment with mark making and Becker coiling embroidery thread into large scale vessels. Their time consuming processes invite healing and contemplative states of being: stitch by stitch; row by row; layer\, mark\, scrape\, paint\, repeat. Patterns\, symbols and color play off each other in this serene pairing of painting and basketry. \nPamela E. Becker will be giving an artist talk at 6:30pm on May 3.

The life-saving message of Dash reaches millions more each year through media and community participation. It all happens during National Donate Life Month to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation\, register more donors\, and pay tribute to those who gave the gift of life. \nProceeds from the Donor Dash benefit the Transplant Foundation\, the charitable foundation that supports programs and activities for donor and recipient families. Born and raised in Tokyo\, Ueyama is a former dancer with Paul Taylor Dance Company and founder of TAKE Dance. \nJamar Roberts\, known for his “mesmerizing choreography” (Dance Magazine)\, returns for a new work co-commissioned with the Vail Dance Festival and featuring the music of Philip Glass\, as performed by Brooklyn Rider. Roberts was a dancer and Resident Choreographer with Ailey and has created work for Complexions and New York City Ballet.
