DESCRIPTION:Horse Woman: Making a World of One’s Own by Philadelphia’s Headlong Dance Theater will be taking place on Thurs. Jan. 18\, 6-9pm. In response to Marie Laurencin: Sapphic Paris\, Headlong Dance Theater has developed Horse Woman: Making a World of One’s Own\, a new performance inspired by the French artist’s work and life. In the early 1920s\, Marie Laurencin designed sets and costumes for the Ballets Russes’s Les biches\, featuring a scenario of sexually fluid romantic intrigue. “Biche” had multiple meanings at the time—a doe\, a kept young woman\, a lesbian—and Laurencin playfully intertwined these meanings in her designs. Inspired by this production\, David Brick and Norma Porter of Headlong have reinterpreted the ballet’s themes for today and channeled the female-animal landscape of Laurencin’s aesthetic world to explore contemporary notions of fluidity\, queerness\, and gender. Recently we started gathering comics made during these meetings for a future Comix Club zine! \nComix Club attendees will also have the opportunity to view our Philadelphia Comics Collection (PCC)! This collection contains work by local comix artists\, which are often also printed and published in Philly. The entirety of this collection is catalogued and available for library use. If you can’t make it to Comix Club\, the whole collection can be found on special PCC-designated shelves by the Art & Literature Reference Desk. Please be aware that the content of many of these comics is mature and graphic in nature\, and so readers must be 18 and up. \nOne continuous goal for Comix Club is to continue to build this inclusive and precious in-house collection. If you are a Philadelphia-based artist with a comic of your own\, or have any local comics you’d like to donate to PCC\, feel free to bring them to our meet-ups!

DESCRIPTION:THE LAST GENERATION ON FILM\nThe Last Generation On Film is a Modern Rock Outfit from Philadelphia. Their music draws from a variety of influences including electro-pop\, funk\, chillwave and dance music with an Alternative Rock core and their sound has been compared to A Flock Of Seagulls\, Duran Duran\, and Glass Animals.  Formed in 2014 by Jeff Familetti (vocals\, keys\, guitar) and Ryan Bayler (keys\, guitar) as a synth pop duo\, the band recently went through some dramatic changes with the addition of two new members\, Joe Tockett (Drums) and Cameron Kynett (Bass).  As a result\, the group’s sound has blossomed\, a shift that has garnered local attention and resulted in a feature as one of WXPN’s Local Picks\, as well as a prime spot on the lineup for 2nd Street Festival.  The group is currently in the process of recording their third EP\, “Repercussions.”  Their first two EPs\, “Repetitions”  and “Reflections\,” were recorded at Headroom Studios by Mark Watter and are currently available for streaming online.  \nNEOWOLF\nPARKER. \nPLASTIC PARENTS\nPlastic Parents is a local Philly band consisting of Scott Lowery on keys\, Greg Seraphin on lead guitar\, Gregory James Wilson on drums\, and Mark Musial on bas. These four space cadets are building the foundation for a newfound groove-induced musical soundscape. Their songs are overflowing with tastey rhythms\, jazz and rock influenced melodies overtop lush rhodes and organ chord progressions. Plastic Parents is the perfect mix of that headbobbing\, hipshaking groove pallet with a mindblowing explosion of musical expertise and sonic curiosity. Longtime friends\, Scott\, Mark and Greg Seraphin have been playing in bands together for 15+ years\, developing a deep musical bond. When they linked up with drummer\, the rhythm guru\, Gregory James Wilson was a match made in heaven. It was at this point that polycorbonates were merged and Plastic Parents became a gold member of the funk-me-up committee. After a year of writing and rehearsing\, the band is currently in the process of recording a debut project\, release date TBA.
