This intimate physical theatre adaptation of the gothic masterpiece will run September 16-19. \nObsession for the lost LIGEIA spirals into madness in Poe’s haunting tale of unutterable grief and unimaginable terror. As chilling evidence of a supernatural presence mounts\, the audience wonders: are the narrator’s visions caused by opium\, or has his wife’s corpse been possessed? \nRather than dramatizing the events of the plot\, LIGEIA emphasizes the physical action of storytelling itself. Remaining faithful to Poe’s original text\, solo-performer William Trevino weaves poetic language with his decades of martial arts practice to create a visceral atmosphere of suspense. A 6th degree black belt in Soo Bahk Do and a veteran Poe performer\, Trevino transforms martial arts movement to embody the psychological struggles of Poe’s narrator. \n“I think of Poe’s language as a complex musical score\,” says Trevino. “My martial arts choreography doesn’t illustrate the story\, it dances to it.” \nWilliam Trevino’s work devising theatre from martial arts has been presented in NYC (including at Dixon Place and HERE Arts Center) with support from the Jerome Foundation and the Queens Arts Fund. Using tulle as a recurring visual motif\, the project creates a vibrant\, community-rooted celebration of visibility and resilience. \nThe Angel Hour is Lancaster’s second-longest-running drag show\, celebrating five years of glamour and sisterhood\, created by Charlize Angelz. \nThis is a night of celebration. Of queer bodies\, queer lives\, and queer autonomy. Of breaking the binaries and changing the narratives we’ve been handed about where we can live\, whom we can love\, and who we can be. Queerness has never been confined to city limits\, and this night proves it.

This event is free to attend. \nThe Art Sho’ is an extension of ODUNDE 365\, which serves as the year-round cultural programming arm of Philadelphia’s well-known ODUNDE Festival. The purpose of ODUNDE 365 is to expand the festival’s influence beyond the annual event. The ODUNDE ART Sho’ also pays tribute to the late ODUNDE Founder Lois Fernandez (Fernandez-West’s mother)\, a lifelong lover and supporter of art. Lois Fernandez passed away in 2017 at age 81.

DESCRIPTION:Basic Information: \nShow:  Tongue & Groove Spontaneous Theater presents:  WHO \nDates & Times:  Fridays\, Oct 3\, 10\, 17\, 24 at 8pm \nLocation:  SideQuest Theater\, 2030 Sansom St \nTickets:  sidequesttheater.com \n  \nShort Description: In their show\, WHO\, Tongue & Groove improvises scenes and monologues exploring real life experiences\, both hilarious and heartbreaking\, inspired by written responses to the question ‘who are you?\,‘ anonymously submitted by the audience. \n  \nLonger Description:  For Tongue & Groove’s show\, WHO\, each audience member is given an index card\, a pen\, and the prompt: “beneath the typical identifiers — and in just one sentence — who are you?”  Encouraged to answer honestly\, the audience anonymously submits their responses\, which are randomly drawn by the actors and read aloud. The ensemble then spontaneously performs a montage of funny and touching scenes & monologues inspired by the audience’s personal descriptions. \nMid-show\, the ensemble chooses more cards to inspire a hilarious Speed Dating Game with a special twist you’ll wish you could use on your next date!

This is the place to come for Philadelphia Comedy on a Friday night! \nTickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. \nYou can purchase tickets in cash at the door or online with a major credit card.
