We were hoping you might potentially be interested in writing about Gen. Marquis de Lafayette’s bicentennial in Philadelphia this month and the series of events being celebrated in Philadelphia and across the country. \nGen. Lafayette is well known as an American Revolutionary War hero\, but a less known fact is he was also a Freemason. The Masonic Temple has paired with the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphia and The American Friends of Lafayette to offer French speaking guided tours of the Temple – including an exhibition showcasing written correspondence by Lafayette and other artifacts from the museum collection – on Sept. 19 and 27\, from 6 – 7 p.m. \nIn addition\, The American Friends of Lafayette will host an elegant Lafayette soiree at the Masonic Temple on Saturday\, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. This event\, which is open to the public\, will feature 19th century elegance\, including musicians playing period pieces and 19th century dancing.

From Pooh’s journey up a very tall tree to meet some bees\, to Eeyore needing a birthday present\, to the time nobody could remember the last time it rained this much\, the vignettes will take the whole family on an adventure across this lively park\, while giving children a safe context to help understand the rapidly changing world around them. Hundred Acre Park is a folksy musical walk through the park with puppetry\, whimsy\, and fun for young children and inner children alike.

Jacob Duché delivered a rousing invocation/prayer at Carpenters’ Hall before the Founding Fathers at the First Continental Congress. \nExactly 250 years later\, Carpenters’ Hall will mark this moment – which set a precedent for prayer in Congress that continues to this day – with a free public reading of the invocation. \nFollowing the brief reading outside at 11 a.m.\, attendees will be welcomed into Carpenters’ Hall to explore the historic site and see two versions of a famous painting depicting Rev. Duché and the delegates in Carpenters’ Hall. \nA John Adams reenactor will be on site along with several more characters in costume who will be performing short scenes relating to the First Continental Congress at 1pm and 3pm (https://www.carpentershall.org/building-independence-historical-reenactments). \nThis event concludes a two-part series that considers prayer and religion in American government and civic culture. DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of Philadelphia is excited to partner with the Arden Theatre as the beneficiary of the Pay-What-You-Choose Final Dress performance of POTUS on Wednesday\, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. Purchase your tickets beforehand to make sure you don’t miss out (tickets will also be available at the door as well). \nPOTUS is a sharp political comedy about when a President who unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis\, and the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon. \nAttendees are welcome to join us to mingle at a brief reception before the performance as we prepare for a busy election season! \nReception: 5:30 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
