DESCRIPTION:Whether you’ve always wanted to tap\, or have years of experience under your belt\, our Winter Class Series is for you! Our next series will return on Sunday afternoons with two 4-week sessions running January 12 – February 2 and February 16 – March 9. Pre-registration is required; individual and drop in classes are not available for this series. On the last day of Session One (February 2)\, the Intermediate and Advanced classes will be taught by Star Dixon\, our 2025 Guest Choreographer! The last day of Session Two (March 9) will include class from 3:00-4:00pm for all levels\, followed by our Student Showcase and Open House Reception from 4:00-5:00pm. Each class will perform a short routine\, warm up\, or improvisation exercise\, and guests are welcome to attend in support of those performing. Participation in the final showcase is optional; absences need not preclude participation. The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble will also give a work-in-progress showing of this year’s guest artist commission\, choreographed by Star Dixon.

Christian Ryan\, Artistic Director of the Media Theatre is very excited to host Pier Players Theatre Company for this event. \nCreated by Danielle E. Moore\, Ink & Paint is a new historical musical that follows the first women animators at Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s and 1940s—the studio’s first “girl artists.” As they navigate a male-dominated industry in the shadow of global conflict and labor uprising\, these four women show the impact of their art and the strength of friendship. \nInk & Paint is presented as part of Media Theatre’s Story Series – a new initiative to bring new\, untold\, and/or distinctive stories into the Media Theatre’s space—from world premiere plays to contemporary musicals and more. \nSet in the golden age of hand-drawn animation\, the wild\, wisecracking women of Ink & Paint fight tooth\, nail\, and paintbrush for their place in history. But to this day\, they are seldom recognized for their work. Through a fantastic\, fully original score and insightfully written scenes full of laughter and heartbreak\, Ink & Paint unlocks a truth about a studio that we all know and love. And\, the musical is being presented just in time for Women’s History Month.

DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Philadelphia presents: “An Introduction to Irish\,” on a resurgent language and the basics of using it\, with Mike Malloy\, Irish Language instructor at Villanova University. \nGear up for Saint Patrick’s Day by taking a whirlwind tour of the Irish language and how to use it with Mike Malloy\, an instructor for Irish at Villanova University and a regular teacher for the Irish language organization Daltaí na Gaeilge. \nHe’ll talk about where the Irish language comes from\, whether it is properly called “Gaelic\,” and how to pronounce Irish words and names. You’ll learn some basic Irish words and phrases and how to read Irish road signs. \nYou’ll also gain a knowledge of the language’s place in Ireland’s history and society. You’ll learn how it has been revived and has changed in the process\, and how it compares to other languages\, including Latin and Yiddish\, once thought to be “dead” or in decline. \nIn the 1840s\, on the eve of the Great Famine\, there were between three and four million speakers of the Irish language in Ireland. Today\, that number is closer to 70\,000\, but Irish has gone from being a language with few books\, low literacy\, and low social status to becoming a recognized and supported language in Ireland\, the United Kingdom\, and the European Union. It has its own television channels\, radio stations\, and newspapers\, as well as a vast literature of original works and translations\, and schools that use the Irish language to teach students are experiencing meteoric growth. \nWe’ll examine what makes Irish unusual among western European languages\, and you might end up unusual among other celebrants of Saint Patrick’s Day in terms of how easily choice Irish words roll off your tongue.
