The production will open at the Performance Garage on February 20th and runs Friday through Sunday until March 8th. \nRiffing on the original vitality of Molière’s rhymed couplets\, this new take on the play brings a contemporary candor and even a soupçon of vitriol  to Molière’s unsettlingly prescient text. \nOften considered Molière’s greatest play\, Tartuffe follows the journey of Orgon\, epitome of Bourgeois-ness\, who has become entranced by the ultra-pious charlatan Tartuffe. Only after jeopardizing his fortune\, his family’s well-being (and their chastity) is he forced to recognize his folly having allowed himself to be seduced by such a cultish\, self-serving zealot. \nAs we too seem to have fallen under the spell of self-serving zealots\, Tartuffe is very much the play of the moment.

A committed music educator with over twenty-five years of experience\, Ruth is the first African American woman to serve as the founding director of a university jazz studies program in the U.S. She serves as an artist-in-residence at Temple University and has held residencies and visiting scholar positions nationally and internationally. Concordia College awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her contributions to the arts\, education\, and justice.
