SUMMARY:Book Release Party for She Was Wild Grass by Katie Bennett
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the release party for She Was Wild Grass by Katie Bennett! Featuring readings by the author and friends\, snacks\, and karaoke. Byob. 7pm at The Perch\, 2321 Emerald Street\, Philadelphia\, PA. \n  \nShe Was Wild Grass (Brink Books\, September 2026) is a hybrid memoir that intertwines Bennett’s own artistic coming-of-age with the haunting story of Joan Vollmer\, the remarkable yet overlooked figure of the Beat Generation whose life was tragically cut short when her husband\, William S. SUMMARY:Teddy Leads Adams & Beethoven
DESCRIPTION:Join Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Grammy Award-winning conductor-composer Teddy Abrams (’08) for an afternoon of vivid symphonic storytelling. The program opens with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8\, showcasing the composer’s knack for mischief and irony\, complete with a witty imitation of a metronome and a tip of the hat to Haydn. Tania León’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Stride\, written to honor the legacy of suffragist Susan B. Anthony\, follows. Composed for the New York Philharmonic’s project marking the centennial of the 19th Amendment\, it combines the sounds of León’s Cuban American heritage with a dark\, restless energy. \n  \nThe afternoon culminates with John Adams’ Harmonielehre. A modern symphonic classic since its 1985 premiere\, this exhilarating work marked Adams’ breakthrough as one of today’s most influential composers. Inspired by a vivid dream\, its three movements surge with pulsing rhythms and shimmering waves of color in celebration of the composer’s 80th birthday.

SUMMARY:Bourbon! The Whiskey Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Bourbon! is a tour-de-force of one of our favorite drinks. Learn how it’s made\, what makes for a great bourbon\, and some brands to look out for while tasting some fantastic examples. This is the class for boozehounds looking for the next great experience. From Tennessee Bourbon to Philly-made Bourbon\, you will learn about (and taste) a fantastic selection of barrel-aged booze. This class features some of our favorite bourbons but includes a how-to to make great cocktails. We’ll even show you how to turn white spirits into your signature whiskey.

SUMMARY:The Devil’s Playground: The Wine Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:In Philadelphia\, October 30th isn’t just any night—it’s Mischief Night\, that semi-feral tradition with roots tangled in both colonial history and teenage impulse. Around here\, it’s a time for troublemakers to emerge from the shadows. But instead of egging houses or TP-ing trees\, we’ve devised a far more delicious form of mischief. \nJoin us for a wicked night of wine and wonder\, as we unleash the darkest\, heaviest\, most full-throttle reds from our cellar. These are the wines that haunt wine lists and crush lighter fare with a single pour—the high-alcohol monsters\, the mouth-drying tannic beasts\, the dark-as-sin bottles that make grown sommeliers weep (with joy\, of course). \nIn this one-night-only class\, we’ll taste through the heavyweight contenders of the red wine world—and back it all up with a dose of science. Which wine actually has the most tannin? Which one’s so full-bodied it’s basically a meal? We’ll explore the chemistry of wine structure and why some grapes carry the devil’s weight better than others. \nIf you crave power in your glass\, this is your kind of mischief.

SUMMARY:Exotic Wines: The Wine Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Obscure\, Rare\, and Shockingly Delicious.\nIs it deliciously exotic—or exotically delicious? Either way\, we’re popping corks on wines that most people have never heard of… but won’t soon forget.\nIn this class\, the rule is simple: the more off the radar\, the better. We’ve crisscrossed the globe—figuratively and literally—to track down wines that defy the mainstream. Some are from regions you didn’t know made wine. Some are crafted from grapes you’ve never seen on a label. A few are both. Those are the real gems. \nThese wines aren’t just rare curiosities. They’re genuinely thrillingly good. That’s the bar. We’re not here to sip something weird just to say we did. These bottles earn their spot. \nIf you’re the type who’d rather try something bold than stick to the usual buttery Chardonnay\, you’re in the right place. Expect to leave this class with a few new obsessions—and a broader sense of how wild and wonderful the wine world really is. \nBonus: you’ll also get a look inside the mind of a cellar master. The kind of wine nerd who spots trends a decade before they show up on wine lists. Case in point: our first Exotica class in 2002 featured an unknown wine from Argentina made with a strange little grape called Malbec. Yeah. That happened.

SUMMARY:Chile: Ancient & Modern Wines at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Uncover the Wines That Time Forgot\nThe vines came first. Long before Chile was a republic\, grapes were growing here. Some of those ancient vines still are\, untouched by rootstock or fashion\, hidden in valleys where the 21st century barely leaves a trace. \nThis isn’t the Chile you think you know. Forget the bargain-bin Merlot. This class is a journey into the true heart of Chilean wine\, where volcanic soils\, coastal fogs\, and ancient vines collide. \nWe’ll start with the regal Cabernet Sauvignons of Maipo\, where Bordeaux dreams were replanted and reimagined. Then we head south to the haunting old-vine País of Bio-Bio\, a grape once dismissed\, now revered—the ancestral thread that links the Old World to the New. From the cool-climate elegance of Casablanca Pinot Noir to the rustic soul of Itata’s Carignan and natural wines\, you’ll taste a living archive of Chilean identity. \nThis class is for the curious. For those who want to drink history\, terroir\, and rebellion in a single glass.
