SUMMARY:Free\, As One: Black Worldmaking in the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Papers Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with 1838 Black Metropolis\, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania presents Free\, As One: Black Worldmaking in the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Papers highlighting themes of Black self-determination and leadership from the 1770s onward in the abolition movement of the Mid-Atlantic region. Drawing from the Pennsylvania Abolition Society (PAS) collection and commemorating the 250th anniversary of its founding\, this compelling exhibit refocuses attention on abolition as a global Black-led political movement championed by the PAS. Through an assembly of primary source documents\, the exhibit emphasizes how family\, community\, and freedom for future generations were key drivers for Black abolitionists in the Philadelphia area and beyond. \nThe exhibit is free to the public during HSP’s operating hours\, Tuesday\, Thursday\, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free\, As One is made possible through generous support from The Haverford Trust Company and the Pennsylvania Abolition Society Endowment Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation. \nThis is not an all-day event. Please visit https://www.portal.hsp.org/hours-and-admission for more information regarding exhibit times.

SUMMARY:B.Y.O.V. – Bring Your Own Vinyl Listening Party
DESCRIPTION:Time slot reservations are required\, so be sure to secure your spot in advance. \nIn honor of Record Store Day\, join us for this month’s Second Saturday at World Wide Stereo for a bring-your-own-vinyl listening party\, where you can experience the rich\, full-bodied sound of your own records on world-class audio gear. Plus\, we’re offering free turntable tune-ups throughout the event! \nEver wonder what your favorite track sounds like on some of the best systems in the world? How about a $150\,000 system? Or an $80\,000 system? Bring in your favorite records to play on our showcase systems\, savor the distinct flavors of your beloved tracks\, and hear your music in a whole new light. \nOur mission is to bring people together to listen to records. And\, while you’re here\, mingle with like-minded music lovers\, talk about HiFi gear\, and share your favorite tunes. This is a super low-key event dedicated to music-lovers and collectors of all generations. \nInterested in a full turntable tune-up? We do that\, too. For this event\, tune-ups are free! Tune-ups may include condition checks\, stylus inspection\, tonearm balance and condition\, stylus force\, anti-skating\, cartridge output and crosstalk\, and cartridge alignment or replacement. Drop-off is at our Montgomeryville showroom. Depending on demand\, your turntable may need to stay with us\, and we’ll notify you when it’s ready for pickup later in the week. Call 215-368-8343 for details. \nWhy might your turntable need a tuneup? When we drop the arm on a record\, there’s sophisticated physics involved in the playback process. A very small needle (aka stylus) reads microscopic etchings in the record groove-walls. And whether or not that needle can properly traverse those grooves is critical to ensuring perfect tracking and maximum fidelity while listening. Things to consider: the angle that the cartridge is mounted and aligned on the head-shell of the arm\, the height and angle of the arm itself\, the horizontal and vertical weighting and counter-weighting\, the wear and tear on the stylus… all are critical to “reading” the inner groove-walls of the very precious LP without damaging it. \nShowcased brands: \nMcIntosh\nMichell\nPro-Ject\nBowers & Wilkins\nFocal\nAudioQuest\nSonus Faber\nAdvance Paris\nJL Audio \nAbout Second Saturdays at World Wide Stereo \nJoin us on the 2nd Saturday of each month for unique\, immersive experiences in our Montgomeryville\, PA Showroom. Discover exciting new products\, gain knowledge through informative sessions\, engage in Q&A with special guests\, and be captivated by live demos.

SUMMARY:The Great Philadelphia Comedy Magic Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Something Magical this Way Comes! October is the month of magic in fact the last week of the month is National Magic Week and October 31 is National Magic Day. SUMMARY:The Happy Mail Project: A Postcard Workshop
DESCRIPTION:When was the last time someone mailed you something that delighted you? The Happy Mail Project is exactly what it sounds like. We send Happy Mail. \nWe’ll bring the postcards\, stamps\, and art supplies. You bring the address of someone you want to make smile. This is a relaxed\, open-ended afternoon of artmaking for all ages. \nThis workshop accompanies Lucy Shaiken’s exhibition “Bookends” . Bookends is a show about home and family. Meals\, togetherness\, and quiet moments come forward as themes in this show. The soft warm light and intimate points of view invite the viewer into these scenes. The paintings welcome them into a world of comfort and care as if they are warm and sleepy and have just finished a meal. Think of this workshop as a small way you can create togetherness with someone you love! \nDVAA uses art to connect people and build collective resilience in spaces across Greater Philadelphia. Help support this sliding-scale event—and many more like it—with a donation of $10–$25! All DVAA programming is NOTAFLOF (No One Turned Away for Lack of Funds). If cost is a barrier\, email marketing@davinciartalliance.org to request a free ticket. \nDVAA is a historic row home in the Bella Vista neighborhood. We are not yet wheelchair accessible; Da Vinci is a three floor gallery with narrow staircases. (We are working towards becoming ADA accessible by 2027!) It is 5 steps up to the first floor level\, and 14 steps from the first to second floor\, where the gender-neutral bathroom is located. Da Vinci has masks and COVID tests available at our events. We can reserve seats for low-vision and Deaf and HoH community members as needed. DVAA exhibitions are free to visit and all of our programs are free or suggested donation. If food is being served at the event you are coming to\, please reach out to us about dietary restrictions. For information\, or to notify our team members of any needs prior to your visit\, please contact info@davinciartalliance.org.

SUMMARY:Discover Your Wine Style: The Wine Tasting Class
DESCRIPTION:This wine class covers four main principles to help participants find their personal wine preferences. It draws on ten years of research\, including work by the Monell Chemical Senses Center\, and uses structured tastings to show how to pick wines that match individual tastes. Instead of requiring deep knowledge of grapes\, regions\, or flavors\, it uses tools like the Wine Style Chart to simplify decisions. Participants leave with a straightforward way to make informed wine choices and reduce the chance of buying a disappointing bottle.

SUMMARY:Dan Savage's 2025 HUMP! Film Fest: Part One
DESCRIPTION:TWO SCREENINGS:\n6:30pm & 9pm (both screenings feature the same lineup of films) \nSince 2005\, HUMP! has been delighting audiences with jaw-dropping\, curated selections of adult short films (each just 5 min. or less) submitted to the festival every year by independent creators from around the globe. But these aren’t your stereotypical adult films! They’re steamy\, sure. Sumptuous\, obviously. Sultry\, of course. But also hilariously funny\, stunningly beautiful\, completely unexpected\, and deeply humanizing. \nWhether it’s a gorgeous romp in a hand dug kaolin clay pit\, an off-the-wall musical comedy starring a hungry sock\, a slasher film tropefest\, a documentary-style look at adult cinema work\, or the exploration of a kink you’ve never even heard of\, Part One of the 2025 lineup features 23 all-new films that push boundaries\, spotlight inclusion and representation for all\, encourage conversation\, and redefine the adult genre. \nJoin a movement that’s as entertaining as it is revolutionary\, because HUMP! isn’t just a “dirty” film fest. It’s a powerful act of resistance – human connection that encourages audiences to embrace themselves\, and each other\, exactly as they are. Get your tickets now!
