SUMMARY:Curtis Symphony Orchestra: Yannick Leads Mahler 9
DESCRIPTION:Be transformed by the heartbreaking serenity of Gustav Mahler’s Ninth Symphony. Led by Grammy Award-winning conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin\, this transcendent farewell—hailed as “the greatest Mahler ever composed” by Viennese composer Alban Berg—showcases Mahler at the height of his skill\, pushing symphonic form to its limits. From its poignant opening motives to final tender notes that slowly dissipate into silence\, follow a journey that celebrates the splendor of life—and the peaceful recognition of its inevitable end. Lyrical\, searching\, and deeply human\, this monumental work unfolds with extraordinary emotional depth and color. \nSetting the stage for this introspective program\, Valerie Coleman’s Umoja—Swahili for unity—opens the evening. This stirring orchestral song harnesses the expressive power of the full ensemble to reflect our society’s challenges and tensions\, ultimately “emerging into sunlit joy” (Philadelphia Inquirer)—and an undeniable affirmation of our shared humanity.

SUMMARY:CraftNow Symposium: Radical Throughlines
DESCRIPTION:Join CraftNOW for its free annual symposium\, as part of Philadelphia’s CraftMONTH\, at Moore College of Art & Design. This year’s theme\, Radical Americana: Throughlines\, celebrates Philadelphia’s historic craft traditions as well as today’s artists and makers who shape the arts community locally and nationally. The 2026 symposium builds on Radical Americana\, the citywide series of 25 exhibitions organized by The Clay Studio: Center for Innovation in Ceramic Art in collaboration with more than 20 cultural institutions to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. With the addition of Throughlines\, CraftNOW broadens the project’s focus to the ideas\, materials\, and practices that move across generations and communities\, inviting audiences to explore the connections that continue to shape Philadelphia’s creative life. \nThe CraftNOW Radical Americana: Throughlines Symposium is sponsored by Clara and Ben Hollander\, the Craft Emergency Relief Fund\, and many other dedicated members of the community.

SUMMARY:Looking Glass Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join Cliveden for a closing reception for Looking Glass on Saturday\, November 14th from 3pm to 5pm! The Chew House will be open for self-guided walkthroughs of the art installations throughout the house and grounds. Sited within the historic interiors and grounds of Cliveden\, the project reflects on the history of people and place in commemoration of the U.S. Semi-quincentennial. \nThe exhibition is organized by Past Present Projects in partnership with Cliveden of the National Trust. Looking Glass is part of Radical Americana\, a city-wide series of exhibitions organized by The Clay Studio\, with support from Philly250 and ArtPhilly.  https://cliveden.org/radical-americana-exhibition/ \nAbout Radical Americana\nFor the Semiquincentennial\, The Clay Studio is leading Radical Americana\, a series of exhibitions organized by a consortium of Philadelphia’s arts and cultural institutions. Each celebrates how artists today are continuing the city’s robust legacy as a center for art\, skill\, and civic engagement. The 45 artists researched and were inspired by the art and history of Philadelphia in 1776\, and the subsequent commemorations in 1876\, 1926\, and 1976. The artists’ new work will add their voices to current dialogue about our nation’s present and future\, inspire civil dialogue\, celebrate Philadelphia’s diversity\, and continue the rich tradition of creativity in our city.  https://www.theclaystudio.org/exhibitions/radical-americana

SUMMARY:Exotic Wines: The Wine Tasting Class at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Obscure\, Rare\, and Shockingly Delicious.\nIs it deliciously exotic—or exotically delicious? Either way\, we’re popping corks on wines that most people have never heard of… but won’t soon forget.\nIn this class\, the rule is simple: the more off the radar\, the better. We’ve crisscrossed the globe—figuratively and literally—to track down wines that defy the mainstream. Some are from regions you didn’t know made wine. Some are crafted from grapes you’ve never seen on a label. A few are both. Those are the real gems. \nThese wines aren’t just rare curiosities. They’re genuinely thrillingly good. That’s the bar. We’re not here to sip something weird just to say we did. These bottles earn their spot. \nIf you’re the type who’d rather try something bold than stick to the usual buttery Chardonnay\, you’re in the right place. Expect to leave this class with a few new obsessions—and a broader sense of how wild and wonderful the wine world really is. \nBonus: you’ll also get a look inside the mind of a cellar master. The kind of wine nerd who spots trends a decade before they show up on wine lists. Case in point: our first Exotica class in 2002 featured an unknown wine from Argentina made with a strange little grape called Malbec. Yeah. That happened.

SUMMARY:Seasonal Sovereignty Workshop
DESCRIPTION:As we reach the end of Autumn\, we turn our attention to the medicines that help carry us through the darker months. In this one-day Seasonal Sovereignty workshop\, we’ll explore immune health and grief care through the plants and folk practices traditionally called upon during this time of year. Together\, we’ll make fire cider and a heart cordial while learning the plants within their larger human stories; their traditional uses\, folklore\, and place within seasonal and ancestral practices. \nRooted in our own Appalachian\, Celtic\, and Southern Italian folk herbal traditions\, this class is also an invitation to look toward your own lineage\, learn what grows around you\, and build the practical knowledge to tend yourself and your community through the season ahead.
