SUMMARY:Cooking con Omi: Omi Hopper in conversation with Amy Rivera-Nassar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening with food entrepreneur Omi Hopper in conversation with Amy Rivera-Nassar of Amy’s Pastelillos. To celebrate the launch of Cooking con Omi: A Love Letter to Puerto Rican Home Cooking\, these two Boricua chefs will be discussing all things food and culture. This event will have light bites\, Q&A\, book signing\, and is for the whole family. \nYour ticket comes with a copy of the book. \nFree parking behind our building for all visitors.  \n  \nAbout the book: \nA love letter to Puerto Rican cooking through 100 recipes interwoven with stories\, histories\, and traditions that shine with joy and a celebratory spirit\, from TikTok star and Next Level Chef runner-up Omi Hopper. \nGrowing up in Puerto Rico\, food had as much of an impact on Omi Hopper’s life as the culture. When her family moved to the mainland\, Omi began to lose her connection with the island. So\, she started cookingconomi to tie her life as a wife and mother to her desire to keep her culture alive and thriving. \nCooking con Omi is a celebration of Puerto Rican cooking with 100 classic and US-influenced Latino dishes that capture the vibrant\, warm\, and lively essence of Puerto Rican culture

SUMMARY:Producers' Forum: Fire Through Dry Grass by Andres “Jay” Molina and Alexis Neophytides
DESCRIPTION:Fire Through Dry Grass by Andres “Jay” Molina and Alexis Neophytides \n(USA\, 2023\, 89 min) \nAs COVID-19 raged through nursing homes\, a group of Black and brown disabled artists decided to document in real time the harrowing experience of residents inside the Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center. Co-directors Alexis Neophytides and Andres “Jay” Molina uncover a history of institutional neglect and abandonment\, where Jay lives along with his fellow Reality Poets\, a group of residents mostly gun violence survivors. Wearing snapback caps and Air Jordans\, Jay and the other Reality Poets don’t look like typical nursing home residents. They used to travel around the city sharing their art and hard-earned wisdom with youth. Now\, using GoPros clamped to their wheelchairs\, they document their experiences on “lockdown.” \nAlexis Neophytides is a documentary filmmaker and educator whose work centers around community and how we find meaning in people and place. She is the co-creator\, co-director\, and producer of Neighborhood Slice\, a public television documentary series that tells the stories of longtime New Yorkers who’ve held onto their little corner of the city despite fast-growing gentrification. Over the past decade\, she has developed filmmaking programs and taught students of all ages throughout NYC. She holds a BA from Brown University and an MA in Media Studies from The New School \nscribe video members receive a discount. Join us !!

Other episodes shown at this screening will feature Dinah of Stenton\, and Ann Wood Henry\, Pennsylvania’s first female public official. Laura Keim\, curator at Stenton\, and Mickey Herr\, researcher for the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (NSCDA/PA) will discuss their archival work that supported the documentary work.
