SUMMARY:Squirrel Nut Zippers to Celebrate 30 Years of Hot at City Winery Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:The “In the Afterlife” Show Features Hits from the Breakthrough Record \n  \nWhen Hot first hit the airwaves in 1996\, it didn’t just ignite excitement — it sparked a cultural bonfire. With its infectious blend of swing\, jazz\, Delta blues\, and Southern storytelling\, Hot rocketed the Squirrel Nut Zippers from the underground scene of Chapel Hill\, NC\, to the national stage\, achieving Platinum status and defining a generation’s rediscovery of vintage Americana. \nNow\, three decades later\, the Zippers are rekindling that fire with “In the Afterlife” tour dates\, a 30th anniversary celebration of the album that captured lightning in a bottle and cemented the band’s legacy as one of the most original and unpredictable acts of the era. The tour will hit City Winery Philadelphia on April 22 at 7:30 PM and tickets are available at https://www.snzippers.com/tourdates. \nRecorded in an old farmhouse outside New Orleans\, Hot radiated authenticity. The album’s warm analog sound and wry\, vivid storytelling made it a critical and commercial success\, topping the Billboard 200 for an impressive 51 weeks. The record produced standout tracks such as “Put a Lid On It\,” “Blue Angel\,” and the band’s biggest hit to date\, “Hell.” \n“Hell\,” an unlikely radio single at the time\, defied expectations\, climbing to #13 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay Chart and embedding itself in pop culture history. Nearly 30 years later\, it continues to resonate with new audiences\, recently featured in hit TV series like Wednesday (2025) and Lucifer (2021). \n\n“Hot was pure alchemy — a mix of mischief\, melody\, and magic\,” said bandleader Jimbo Mathus. “It was never meant to chase trends; it was meant to burn bright and last. And somehow\, it still does.” \n\nFormed in 1993 by Mathus\, Katharine Whalen\, and a tight-knit crew of musical misfits\, the Squirrel Nut Zippers defied genre from the start. Their sound — a spirited blend of prohibition-era jazz\, big band bravado\, and punk-rock irreverence — invited listeners into a world where vaudeville met voodoo and speakeasy swagger met Southern soul. \nLed today by Mathus\, the modern-day Zippers continue to honor that rich legacy while bringing fresh fire to their beloved catalog. The 30th anniversary of Hot is more than a milestone — it’s a testament to resilience\, reinvention\, and the enduring power of music that swings\, sings\, and sizzles with soul.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Antiques Show
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Historic Trappe\, the Pennsylvania Antiques Show will feature 64 of the nation’s leading antiques dealers offering exceptional examples of fine and decorative art\, including Americana\, garden antiques\, paintings\, silver\, ceramics\, jewelry\, European and Chinese decorative arts\, and important works spanning the 17th through 20th centuries. \nThe show will take place April 23–26\, 2026\, at the convention center at Valley Forge Casino Resort. \nA signature feature of the show will be the loan exhibition\, The Conestoga Wagon: A Pennsylvania Icon\, showcasing a full-scale Conestoga wagon from a private Lancaster collection. First developed in Lancaster County during the early 1700s to haul farm produce and other goods to market\, these wagons were the equivalent of today’s tractor trailers and were often decorated with highly ornate ironwork made by local blacksmiths. In 1976\, the Conestoga wagon was the focus of the Bicentennial Wagon Train\, in which wagons from across the United States converged at Valley Forge on July 4. Fifty years later\, the Pennsylvania Antiques Show once again brings visitors from around the country back to Valley Forge to celebrate the nation’s history through material culture during the U.S. Semiquincentennial. \nGeneral admission tickets for Friday\, April 24\, through Sunday\, April 26\, range from $20-25 and are free for guests under 18. Admission includes entry to the show as well as access to Historic Trappe’s museums\, including the Center for Pennsylvania German Studies in the Dewees Tavern; the Muhlenberg House furnished to the Revolutionary War era; and the newly restored Speaker’s House\, Frederick Muhlenberg\, the first speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives\, which will celebrate its grand opening on April 11\, 2026\, following a 25-year restoration.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments—everyone’s invited! We are gearing up for an energized celebration\, with a Pop-Up Studio in the East Balcony\, performances by the Philly All Stars Marching Band and Project Positive\, and a DJ that will perform in the Great Stair Hall where food and drink will be available for purchase. This exhibition looks at boxing from ancient sculpture to contemporary art—and considers how that history converges in Philadelphia’s embrace of the Rocky statue as a monument to the city’s grit and spirit. \nWe are thrilled to offer Pay What You Wish admission from April 10 through September 4.

SUMMARY:Once Upon a Glow a blacklight mask & puppet performance
DESCRIPTION:Step into a glowing world where dance\, music\, and imagination come together.\n\n\nOnce Upon A Glow: Stories in the Blacklight is a family-friendly performance that brings glowing characters and playful scenes to life through blacklight\, masks\, dance and puppets. From delicate butterflies taking flight to curious insects buzzing into motion\, or mysterious creatures in luminous landscapes\, bursts of color fill the space.\n\n\nAt its heart\, Once Upon A Glow: Stories in the Blacklight is about connection\, creativity\, and seeing the world a little differently. It is a joyful celebration of movement and light\, designed to spark curiosity and leave audiences smiling long after the lights come on.
