DESCRIPTION:Class Description:\nHave you ever lost something special or maybe something special has lost its use? Your best winter hat? Your favorite VHS tape? We’re going to reference our own mental images of our remembered objects as we recreate them in paper mache. \nThis will be fun and fairly easy for all skill levels\, with a few challenging moments. Ages 5-105 would be able to handle this medium. \nStudents will sculpt a generalized form in 3 dimensions. They will mix color using acrylic paint and use 2-D color\, line and shape to define and characterize the generalized 3-D form. \nStudents will gain a sculpture that stands in for a lost object. \nTeacher Info:\nBorn 1984 in New York\, NY\, Sophie White lives and works in Philadelphia\, PA. Since adolescence in a rapidly transforming NYC at the turn of the millennium\, she has made small\, cityscape paintings from observation of familiar places at various stages of becoming unfamiliar. Colorful sculptures and experimental sound and performance work sometimes accompany her paintings\, mimicking the environment in which they were made. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art. Together\, we are presenting a month-long\, citywide celebration of LGBTQIA+ artists\, stories\, and community. \nRunning throughout Pride Month at various locations across Philadelphia\, the festival will feature performances\, concerts\, cabaret\, outdoor events\, and community engagement activities\, highlighting the depth and diversity of the city’s queer artistic landscape. \nAffectionately branded Philly PrideAF\, the festival is co-produced to pool resources\, audiences\, and creative vision. This model allows the festival to be rooted in artistic excellence\, access\, and collective care. \nIn addition to its five producers\, the festival is partnering with LGBTQIA+-affirming artists and allies\, local businesses\, and community organizations throughout the month\, including boom-bap jazz band Mobbluz\, Altissimo Arts\, and independent bookstores. The festival will also collaborate with mutual aid organizations doing critical work for LGBTQIA+ communities in Philadelphia\, with a different organization highlighted at each event and opportunities for audiences to learn more and contribute directly through material and monetary donations.
