SUMMARY:Old Academy Players presents Disenchanted!
DESCRIPTION:Disenchanted! By Dennis T. Giacino\nDirected by Annie Hnatko \nApril 25th\, 26th; May 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, 9th\, 10th\, 11th\, 2025\nFriday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m.\, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. \nPoison apples and lost slippers are just the beginning. The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture\, so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know — these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth. Received an “Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and a “Best New Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Off-Broadway Alliance). \nContent Warning: Contains adult language and content.

SUMMARY:Delaware County Symphony Presents A Celebration of Black History with Sound and Sight
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, the Chamber Series of Delaware County Symphony is presenting a combination of theatrical performance with classical string quartet music on Sunday\, February 15 at 3:00 PM. Historical Interpreter and Educator\, Dr. Daisy Nelson-Century will bring Harriet Tubman to life with accompanying music by pioneering African American composer\, Florence Price. \nThe program unfolds in five theatrical acts; each paired with one movement from Price’s Five Folksongs in Counterpoint for String Quartet. Through this unique blend of storytelling and music\, audiences will experience the extraordinary courage of Harriet Tubman- born into slavery in Maryland\, later a Union spy during the Civil War\, and the heroic conductor of the Underground Railroad who helped free more than seventy enslaved people. \nFlorence Price (1887–1953) was an American composer\, pianist\, organist\, and educator whose work has gained renewed recognition in recent years. Educated at the New England Conservatory of Music and based in Chicago from 1927 onward\, Price composed Five Folksongs in Counterpoint in 1950. The work features the beloved folksongs; Calvary\, Clementine\, Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes\, Shortnin’ Bread\, and Swing Low\, Sweet Chariot. \nA Celebration of Black History with Sound and Sight will be presented on February 15 at 3:00 PM in Neumann University’s Meagher Theatre. Tickets for the concert may be purchased at dcsmusic.org/tickets

SUMMARY:Make Your Own Participation Trophy
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the controversial nature of participation trophies\, this workshop at The Arts League will use crafting and conversation to explore the political\, emotional\, and social nature of awarding. We’ll look at what is given: certificates\, trophies\, ribbons\, and for what: superlatives\, sporting events\, military decoration\, prom queen\, employee of the month\, best in show\, perfect attendance\, and more. Participants will not only investigate how awarding can build\, maintain\, or disrupt social norms\, they will also utilize their imaginations to craft new–and maybe even peculiar–awards for a better world. Participants will: \n\nBrainstorm text for their own prize ribbons\nFashion the center of their ribbons using fabric\, felt\, markers\, and/or cardstock\nLearn different methods of folding and adhering ribbon to give their prizes dimension\n\nEach student will walk away with their own participation trophy for personal display or awarding. This workshop is open to all levels of artistic experience! \nTeacher Info:\nAbigail Cornelia is an artist and museum professional living and working in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. She uses text and images to create narrative artifacts communicating themes of personal history\, femininity\, and belonging. Art making allows Cornelia to investigate a feeling side of herself while also being a unique opportunity for levity. \nInstagram – @memoryhaver\nWebsite – abigailcornelia.com
