SUMMARY:The Philadelphia Cup Regatta
DESCRIPTION:Register Now! \nPhiladelphia Cup Regatta Set for October 3\, 2026 \nHosted by the Liberty Sailing Club\, Riverton Yacht Club & Corinthian Yacht Club \n  \nPhiladelphia\, Pennsylvania. Nearly 30 boats from Pennsylvania\, New Jersey\, and Delaware have already signed up for the 2026 Philadelphia Cup Regatta. Add your boat to the fleet now at www.philadelphiacupregatta.com. Set for Saturday\, October 3\, on the Delaware River\, Center City Philadelphia’s only sailing regatta delivers competitive racing with the city skyline as a one-of-a-kind backdrop and a chance to earn a place on the prestigious Philadelphia Cup perpetual trophy. Hosted by Liberty Sailing Club\, Riverton Yacht Club\, and The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia\, racing is open to J27\, J22\, Lightning\, Flying Scot\, Mariner\, V15\, Laser\, Thistle\, Corinthian Sloop\, and Sunfish classes\, plus PHRF boats. Sail something else? Rally two other boats in your class\, and you’ve got a race! \n  \n“We look forward to welcoming sailors from across the tri-state area to race in the heart of Philadelphia\, where the Delaware River and city skyline create a dynamic venue that’s every bit as exciting for spectators along the waterfront\,” says Laura Ness\, regatta director. “New this year\, the Awards Ceremony adds a patriotic-themed reception celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.” \n  \nPurchase Awards Ceremony and Reception Tickets: https://shop.philadelphiacupregatta.com/products/2026-philadelphia-cup-regatta-reception-ticket \n  \nRegister Now! \n  \nThe entry fee is only $40 for Lasers and Sunfish\, $55 for all other Dinghies\, and $80 for Keelboats. Late entry on October 2 and 3 is $115 per boat. This fee includes a light breakfast for competitors\, one skipper bag per boat\, and launching service for One Design boats (Sunfish\, Laser\, Flying Scot\, and Lightning) at the Independence Seaport Museum’s boat basin or via a boat access ramp at Race Street and Columbus. Boat slips are available at Penn’s Landing Marina\, Pier 3 and Pier 5\, and Wiggins Park Marina\, but are not included in the entry fee and are not guaranteed. A lift will be available for trailered boats such as Flying Scots and Lightnings. The competitors’ check-in will be at the Independence Seaport Museum in The Seaport Boat Shop. The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2025-2028 (RRS)\, including the prescriptions of U.S. Sailing except as modified by the Sailing Instructions. \n  \nRacing boats will launch from the start line off Penn’s Landing for round-the-buoy racing\, navigating current\, fellow competitors\, and wind in the Delaware River. The first start is at 10:30 a.m.\, with the last race starting no later than 3:30 p.m. Racecourses will be set north of the Ben Franklin Bridge south to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay base\, only a little over a 1-mile long in distance\, so that spectators can catch some of the action all along the waterfront. The Awards Ceremony and waterfront afterparty follow. \n  \nReady to Race \n  \nDinghies and keelboats\, from 14′ Laser to 30′ J/30\, are ready to race. \n  \nOne of these is the 19′ Flying Scot\, named Flying Scot\, skippered by Riverton\, NJ’s Arthur Littleton. This isn’t Littleton’s first Philadelphia Cup Regatta. He sailed several years ago in a Sunfish. This year\, he and his crew are one of three Flying Scots representing the Riverton Yacht Club in this one-design. \n  \nIt is not often you get to race in front of Penn’s Landing with the Philadelphia skyline in full view. For me\, it has been 10-15 years. Supporting sailing events like this helps keep sailboat racing alive. A lot of effort goes into planning a regatta\, and Riverton Yacht Club is helping promote and support Liberty in making it a success\,” says Littleton. \n  \nThe historic Delaware and Tinicum\, 24-foot Corinthian Sloops\, designed by Philadelphia naval architect Thomas Bowes in 1951\, will be on the start line this year. The Delaware was rebuilt in 2018 and the Tinicum in 2023 at Independence Seaport Museum’s Seaport Boat Shop to help revive one-design Corinthian Sloop racing on the Delaware River. \n  \n“I’ve always seen the Philadelphia Cup as a great way to showcase the recreational sailing that is thriving on the Delaware River. Now that the event has returned to the Delaware\, it seems like a great opportunity to get two historic Philadelphia boats racing on the river again. The hope is to garner interest not only in this class of boat but in all boats\, both modern and traditional\, and to continue growing recreational sailing in Philadelphia. Crew for both boats is still being assembled. In the meantime\, we are freshening up paint and varnish on both boats and preparing the rigging for race day\,” says Dormond\, director of Boat Shop and Waterfront Operations. \n  \nOrganizers of The Philadelphia Cup Regatta thank Con Murphy’s Irish Pub\, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation\, SeaPhilly\, Mainstay\, Campari\, Penn’s Landing Marina Pier 3 and Pier 5\, and Live! Casino & Hotel for their sponsorship. \n  \nPast to Present \n  \nThe Philadelphia Cup Regatta was first hosted by Liberty Sailing Club\, Riverton Yacht Club\, and The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia from 2011 to 2016 and returned in 2024. The Cup itself dates back over 40 years. \n  \nFor more information\, visit www.philadelphiacupregatta.com/ or contact the regatta director at info@philadelphiacupregatta.com. Check out the Philadelphia Cup Regatta on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Philadelphiacupregatta) and Instagram @philly_cup_regatta. \n  \nNOTES TO EDITORS \n  \nAbout the Philadelphia Cup Regatta: \n  \nLiberty Sailing Club hosted the Philadelphia Cup Regatta in October 2025 and May 2024. Before that\, Liberty Sailing Club\, the Riverton Yacht Club\, and The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia hosted it from 2011 to 2016. The Cup itself dates back over 40 years. Past Cups have drawn participation from 100-plus sailors in all clubs on the Delaware River\, in addition to clubs as far away as Bucks and Chester Counties. \n  \nAbout the Liberty Sailing Club: \n  \nLocated on the Delaware River in Center City\, Philadelphia\, Liberty Sailing Club (LSC) is a not-for-profit organization owned and operated by its 150+ members. LSC is the only Sailing Club in Philadelphia that offers access to Club-owned boats: a fleet of 8 J27s. One-design racing is held on Wednesday and Thursday nights from April to September. Weekday and weekend cruising excursions and social events are held at the Club’s Clubhouse\, a short walk from Pier 5 Marina. Following U.S. Sailing’s lead\, LSC is committed to advancing diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in the sport of sailing and to foster an environment that is welcoming to all sailors. \n  \nAbout the Riverton Yacht Club: \n  \nRiverton Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club on the Delaware River\, New Jersey’s oldest\, and one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating yacht clubs\, having been founded in 1865. Its 175 active and contributing members race every Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening\, a series uninterrupted since the early 1930s that regularly attracts up to 75 boats. Active one-design fleets include J/22s\, Lightnings\, Mariners\, Flying Scots\, plus two PHRF classes. The annual Governor’s Cup Regatta\, sailed each June since 1949\, draws nearly 100 boats. More than 100 World\, North American\, National\, America’s Cup\, and Olympic champions have called it home. \n  \nAbout The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia: \n  \nFounded more than 130 years ago\, The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia (CYCOP) is one of America’s premier sailing clubs\, with a distinguished history of producing national champions\, Olympic sailors\, offshore race winners\, and America’s Cup defenders. Located at the mouth of Tinicum Harbor on the Delaware River\, the club has long been a center for excellence in competitive sailing while fostering a welcoming environment for sailors of all ages and experience levels. The club supports an active racing program that includes Vanguard 15 (V15) and J/22 one-design fleets\, along with a proud offshore racing tradition. Corinthian members regularly compete in many of the East Coast’s most prestigious offshore events\, including the Annapolis-to-Newport Race and the Newport Bermuda Race\, continuing a legacy of seamanship\, teamwork\, and competitive excellence. In addition to championship racing\, the club offers sailing instruction\, youth and adult development programs\, cruising\, and recreational sailing. First-rate waterfront facilities accommodate boats from 7 to 50 feet and are supported by experienced waterfront staff\, including US Sailing-certified instructors. \n  \nMedia contact: \nCarol Bareuther \nCell/WhatsApp: 340-998-3650 \nEmail: bareuther@earthlink.net \n

SUMMARY:Core Sommelier Course (Fall Semester) at the Philly Wine School
DESCRIPTION:Eight weeks\, 16 sessions\, and the entry point to a full professional wine curriculum. \nThe Philly Wine School has taught this material since 2001. The Core course combines the school’s Foundation and Intermediate programs into one semester — the full sequence in half the calendar time\, and for less than taking them separately. \nEach Sunday runs two sections. The first works through a wine region: France\, Italy\, Spain and Portugal\, North America\, Australia\, South America. The second builds tasting skill\, from sensory mechanics through varietal structure to blind identification. By week seven students are tasting blind. By week eight they are being examined on it. \nThe teaching is old-school and deliberately demanding — lecture\, guided tasting\, discussion\, instructor feedback\, written exams. Most students find in the first two weeks that they knew less than they thought. That is the design. Bring a notebook. \nGraduates earn Level III certification from the National Wine School and can continue into the Advanced program — four semesters\, 32 classes — and then to master-level study. \nKeith Wallace founded the school in 2001. A Napa-trained winemaker and the author of Corked & Forked\, he has taught at Drexel University. Alana Zerbe is director of wine education; she holds a J.D. and an LL.M.\, practiced law in Washington before moving into wine full time\, and developed the National Wine School’s Level One and Level Three programs. Both teach this course. \nTuition covers the course workbook and tasting materials\, both in-class exams\, and Level III certification on completion. No prerequisites. Classes are held at 109 S. 22nd St. in Rittenhouse. \n\n“For over 20 years\, this independent institution has quietly trained the next wave of sommeliers\, winemakers\, and beverage professionals.” — AWS Wine Journal\, American Wine Society Educational Foundation\, Summer 2025 \n\n\n“The best wine school\, period. Everything I’ve achieved in the world of wine\, I owe to them.” — Neil Ross\, director\, Vernick Restaurant Group

SUMMARY:Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Before movements had hashtags\, before conversations moved online\, women gathered in living rooms\, community centers\, and rec halls to tell the truth about their lives. Set in a small-town Ohio rec center in the early 1970s\, Liberation follows a group of women who come together for a consciousness-raising meeting—unsure what to expect\, but certain they need one another. As stories unfold about work\, marriage\, motherhood\, race\, desire\, and ambition\, the room becomes a place of courage\, laughter\, conflict\, and possibility. \nMoving between past and present\, the play asks what those gatherings made possible—and what they left unfinished. What does freedom really look like? Who gets to claim it? And what do we inherit from the generations who came before us? Funny\, intimate\, and deeply human\, Liberation reminds us that change begins when people come together. This is where stories are shared. This is where ideas are challenged. This is where we gather.
