Spotlight Tour: Transcending Thresholds: Archaeology of Service Spaces

August 9, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
$10 – $19144

Part of the Transcending Thresholds initiative to study, restore and interpret the service spaces at Cliveden, this tour discusses the archaeological artifacts found in the kitchen well during the Well and Pump Restoration Project and the architectural archaeology work performed on the pantry and quarters above the Kitchen, and how these discoveries will affect the restoration and interpretation of these spaces.

Cliveden interns Megan Hosie and Camilla Meeker will discuss their work in presentations in the Barn. Megan will explain the process of cataloguing and analyzing the archaeological artifacts found during the well shaft excavation; some of these artifacts will be on display. Camilla will detail the archaeology work done in the pantry and kitchen quarters and lead visitors on a brief tour of the pantry to see the work in person. Come prepared to walk around the site; closed toe shoes are recommended.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online or in person on August 9th. $20 general admission; $10 for 19119 and 19144 residents, Cliveden members, and National Trust members.

The Well Restoration Project is supported by a Keystone Construction Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. Transcending Thresholds has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.
