FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nanny Goat Fest Brings Street Festival and Historic Marker Dedication to Olde Kensington

Philadelphia, PA — On Saturday, May 9, Nanny Goat Fest will transform American Street in Olde Kensington into a day-long street festival featuring live music, food, and a Pennsylvania Historical Marker dedication commemorating the 1844 Kensington Riots.

The free, public event begins at 1 PM with the official dedication of a new Pennsylvania Historical Marker, recognizing a pivotal chapter in Philadelphia history when anti-immigrant violence reshaped the city. The festival continues from 2 PM to 8 PM along American Street, celebrating the resilience of the community that was rebuilt in the aftermath of the riots.

Presented in part by the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick, Nanny Goat Fest will feature live Irish and folk music, including performances by the John Byrne Band and Poor Man’s Gambit, along with an Irish dance showcase and an open “Trad Session” acoustic jam tent where musicians are invited to bring instruments and join in.

The family-friendly festival will also feature dozens of local vendors and neighborhood businesses, including Mom-Mom’s Kitchen, Stateside Vodka, and Yards Brewing Company, creating a lively street market atmosphere in the heart of Kensington.

The event takes place on American Street between Master and Oxford Streets, on the historic site of the former Nanny Goat Market, a 19th-century public market that once stood at the center of Kensington’s immigrant community before it was destroyed during the riots.
