Clay & Conversations with Lauren Sandler

The Clay Studio presents Clay & Conversations, an exciting series of conversations with ceramic artists, curators, scholars, and friends. Join for a talk with Lauren Sandler about her practice and current exhibition, The Shape We Hold, an inquiry into the ways that we are shaped and the ways we shape. This event will take place virtually.
Sandler is Professor and Head of Ceramics at Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
Sandler’s latest exhibition, The Shape We Hold, is an inquiry into the ways we are shaped, and the ways we shape our world. Using regional materials and objects, including handmade bricks, sewage pipes, and plants, she references historic clay, textile, and agricultural industries of the area. Sandler dispels the myth of neutrality, revealing how systems and structures shape narratives and meaning, and the role of material culture and industries as apparatus of control. The exhibition is on display in the Jill Bonovitz Gallery through March 29.
