Char & Stave’s Latte Art Throwdown

CHAR & STAVE TO HOST ITS FIRST “LATTE ART THROWDOWN”: COMPETITION WITH FIRST PRIZE OF $500
Café-by-Day, Cocktail Bar-By-Night Invites the Region’s Top Competing Latte Artists to Enter – Proceeds will Benefit Non-Profit Food4Farmers
PHILADELPHIA, PA (OCTOBER 22, 2026) – Char & Stave, the airy cafe-by-day and sleek cocktail-bar-by-night, is thrilled to announce its first-ever Latte Art Throwdown, where first and second place winners will take home cash prizes! On Monday, October 26th from 7 – 10pm, Char & Stave Chestnut Hill (8441 Germantown Avenue) invites baristas, coffee nerds, caffeine enthusiasts to partake in the festivities, which will also include an afterparty featuring a DJ, drink specials, and more. On-lookers can attend free of charge, while competitors will need to register with a $15 buy-in. Proceeds will benefit Food4Farmers, a non-profit focused on supporting the families of coffee farmers. Eventbrite ticket link HERE.
Here’s how it works: Char & Stave staff will randomly pair up contestants to go head to head in a classic seeding scenario, pouring their best latte art in an increasingly stressful battle for the approval of the crowd, the judges, and whatever mysterious force decides whether their milk is going to cooperate that night. Winners of each round move on, to compete in the next round. The final two latte artists will go head to head, with the winner earning first prize of $500, and the runner-up placing second, earning $250. While no formal qualifications are required, participants should be prepared for a highly competitive environment!
“Since announcing this Latte Art Throwdown on the Char & Stave social media last week, the excitement and tension in the cafe has been palpable,” said Chelsea Walrath, General Manager of Char & Stave Chestnut Hill. “It’s no secret that baristas take their latte art very seriously – we’re stoked to host our first competition and see who can bring the best design.”
Competitors can register to enter online HERE ($15 before tax). On-lookers are welcome free of charge. Proceeds will benefit Food4Farmers, a non-profit focused on helping coffee-farming families combat food insecurity by producing their own food, diversifying income sources beyond coffee, and strengthening community resilience.
After the competition, guests are invited to stay to enjoy a lively afterparty complete with DJ, drink specials, questionable levels of caffeine, merch and swag giveaways, and more.
Since opening in 2021, Char & Stave has steadily grown its base of dedicated regular customers with a bevy of community-facing events hosted at both locations: The cafe and cocktail bars concepts have become synonymous with hosting interactive events and programming including but not limited to Dungeons & Drafts, paint and sip nights, DJ nights, vinyl pop-ups, open mic nights, live music performances, quizzo, bingo, and more. Now, baristas of all skill levels are invited to compete for bragging rights – and of course, a $500 first prize, and $250 second prize.

ABOUT CHAR & STAVE
Helmed by Jared Adkins, the Founder and Master Distiller of acclaimed Phoenixville distillery Bluebird Distilling, Char & Stave includes a morning cafe and cocktail bar; aptly summarized by the slogan that populates its branding: “coffee made by whiskey people.” Char & Stave’s ethos and uniquity is found in the process employed for roasting and preparing coffee beans – a process strikingly similar to the aging process of Bluebird Distilling’s wide catalogue of brown spirits. All coffee beans are roasted at Bluebird Distilling in Phoenixville, with the Barrel Aged series set to age for approximately three weeks, and then transported for consumption and sale to Char & Stave.
