Dr. J Will be Hosting The National Thoroughbred League’s Philadelphia Cup Featuring Horse Racing and Plenty of Athletes
On Saturday, October 19, the National Thoroughbred League will be taking over Parx Racing, with lineup of five NTL races and Philadelphia’s biggest day of racing outside of the Pennsylvania Derby,the NTL Philadelphia Cup, hosted by Dr. J himself, Philadelphia Stallions co-owner Julius Erving. Doors open at noon and races begin at 2:30 p.m.
This special Oktober-fast event will have plenty of star power, entertainment, and much more. Guests can expect:
- A dozen Philadelphia sports legends – including Dr. J of course, as well as Eagles Brian Westbrook, Seth Joyner, Freddie Mitchell, plus many more. And a few New York Giants (Otis Anderson, Howard Cross, Beasley Reece) to make it interesting ahead of their big matchup the next day
- The NTL music stage with live entertainment
- Food trucks
- Incredible art demonstrations, starring Eric Waugh, the NTL’s Guinness Record-holding artist-in-residence
- Fan fashion shows: Dress in your Derby best, strut your stuff in front of the crowd and you may find yourself in the actual winner’s circle
- And of course, the most exciting day of racing anywhere this year. The NTL 10 teams, from the Stallions to New York Knights to the California Shamrocks, facing off in 5 consecutive races, with 3 hours of higher stakes, building excitement, cheering sections and then the big finale. It’s like nothing else in horse racing or sports today
This event is free to attend the fan experience but for $200, you can opt for the VIP experience which includes access to the team owners box, with open bar and unlimited food, as well as a great view of the races – as well as the NTL Oktober-fast beer garden, complete with beer samplings, top Philly bands, meet-and-greets with Philadelphia sports legends, including Dr. J, fashion shows, live art demonstrations – and of course, cheering section for the NTL teams.
