Dîner en Blanc is Returning to Philly This August!
Philly’s biggest pop-up dinner Dîner en Blanc has announced their return this August. Whether you get it or you don’t, Dîner en Blanc is definitely an eye-catching event as hoards of diners clammer at various points in the city awaiting to get word on where the pop-up will take place. This year’s event will take place August 12th at an undisclosed location of course.
Originally started in Paris back in 1988, participants dress in all white with their entire picnic set-up in tow and eventually get a notification the day of the event as to where the event will take place. “Part mystery tour, part pop-up feast and part je ne sais quoi, Le Dîner en Blanc is a magical evening that celebrates and re-purposes public space. Bystanders will witness groups of guests all dressed in white gathering at specific rallying points all across the city. Guided by volunteers, these groups will then converge on a unique and unexpected setting, traveling by chartered bus or public transportation. Guests will bring their own gourmet feast, table, chairs and table setting. Over the course of the evening, they will eat and celebrate amid music, entertainment and dancing,” the site states. Over the years Philly’s Dîner en Blanc as took place in various locations including the Navy Yard, City Hall, Franklin Square as well as the on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Speculating where the next one will take place is always part of the adventure.
On the flip side, the event has drawn criticism form those that just “don’t get it” or see it as a bougie event. Nonetheless it hasn’t stopped Dîner en Blanc from gaining popularity and has since grown globally. As for the Philly Dîner, no invitations have been sent as of yet but if you are not a member of this pop-up dinner club then an invitation must be extended to you to attend.
