Celebrate Black History Month With The Rosenbach’s Behind the Bookcase Featuring Rare Literature
Black History Month just kicked off and if you’re a fan of literature, The Rosenbach is hosting a special edition of their Behind The Bookcase tour on February 5th. This special Black History Month edition features Black writers, the jazz age , and the Harlem Renaissance.
The Harlem Renaissance is the fulcrum for this look “behind the bookcase” at great Black writers. Beginning with Paul Laurence Dunbar, the first acclaimed Black poet after Emancipation. The program is from 2 pm- 3 pm and guests will spend the bulk of the time with letters and first editions of poet Langston Hughes and philosopher Alain LeRoy Locke-including the keystone work of the Harlem Renaissance, Locke’s The New Negro.
The Rosenbach is home to many rare Black literature pieces and this event focuses on a few key items. Behind the Bookcase: Hands-on Tours offer unparalleled access to see, and even touch, rare and important items not usually on view to the public. Each program is dedicated to a different author, theme, or topic and grants a truly hands-on experience with materials in The Rosenbach’s inspiring collection.
This event is $25 per person and tickets can be purchased here.
